ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Wheel width

Hello I drive a 93 accord Lx. I started with 17x7 wheels and didn't like the look of them. So I went to 15x8 and really liked the wide look of them but not how small they were. So I now am riding on 16x8 and like the size but was wondering if any wider rims than 8" will fit. Maybe like 8.25 or 8.5.

Also I have 205/40/r16 tires on my 16x8's and it looks to low of profile tires. If I switch to 205/45/r16 tires how much taller would it be ?

205/40/16 and 205/45/16 are WAY too small.

As for width, the offset will play a part in determining what is too wide. 8" is about as wide as I'd ever want to go, though. 7-7.5" is the width you'll find for most 16-17" wheels.

You can run a wider rim than 8.0", but it will take some work. Work coming in the form of accurate measurements for starters. The main thing to consider is not allowing the rear of the rim or tire to contact the inner part of the wheel well. Next, most likely a fender roll at minimum plus flaring quarters/fender will probably follow.

We have members here running 17x9.5 +18 in the rear with another running 17x9 +32. Body work was involved in both cases, but I be damned if I didn't say they look so damn good. Since you are new, I'll leave it up to you to search the site to hunt said vehicles down. There's a few more as well. If you need any help in your search, I'm sure we can point you in the correct direction if needed.

BTW, I have plans on running 17x9.5 myself. I've done the correct calculations, and just have to be patient and save.

Also, I believe most rim/wheel manufacturers only offer widths in 0.5" increments.

Also keep in mind the price of such wide tires. Wide wheels will require uncommon tire sizes, which will get expensive. In order to fit such wide wheels, a significant amount of negative camber may be necessary (and any amount of searching on here will show you my opinion of that...) Negative camber on really wide wheels will result in serious camber wear, which will mean frequent tire changes. If you're not willing to keep up with that, your car will end up being quite dangerous to drive.

Why are pictures necessary? 8" is 8".

Most people posted their sizes and offsets and stuff, but if they didn't, you can always pm them.

man, 17x8.5 has gotta be a pain (for me anyway, i dont do body work). i run 15x7 +15 with 195/50's and i had to roll my fenders and slightly pull the rears. i'd stay with 7" wide and 16's and determine a good tire size for that setup. good luck

I'm on 8.0" wide with no fender roll and no problems. Camber is set in the rear around -0.75*.

EDIT: I just remembered, I do have minor rubbing on the inner wheel well in the front when I bottom out. I forgot.

yeah, i wanted around a +30 mm setup for my car but i came across my +15's and im actually extremely happy with them. you gotta think, 25.4mm is 1 inch, so my +15 to your +45 pushes your wheel back (towards the car) an inch or so, so yours is about +5mm difference to mine, roughly. and 5mm is minimal so yours probably sits like mine, but an inch wider.

I'm well versed in wheel measurement as I designed a 1 off custom set for a FSAE car in 2011. This is why I will be able to run a 17x9.5 +32 (or possibly down to a +28) step lip 3 piece forged rim with minor body modifications and not having tons of negative camber.

i wasn't trying to "school" you or anything. it was just kind of basic knowledge for the thread/OP. 9.5's will be pretty sweet actually, looking forward to that.
