ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

I've used the Duplicolor Black Chrome in the past with good results.

It's some pretty decent stuff and gives it a cool effect.

It's kinda like Niteshades for chrome.

Do you know of any better way to get that "black chrome" look, without breaking the bank? I figure if anyone knows, it'd be you!

That paint doesn't actually give a true black chrome look. Black chrome is beautiful. This product gives more of a anodized alluminum look, which turns that dark purple glow, that could almost appear to be on the black spectrum...... but not really. It's purple.

out of budget for anything else remotely close........yeah, it sucks for us all.

since the items your wanting spray is already chrome colored, you can try using any type of transparent black spray paint. that's pretty much what the duplicolor paint is. if i'm thinking of the same 2 stage paint you're talking about, its just the transparent black can, and then a clear.

i know Testors paint (for models) makes a bunch of diff color transparent colors and i've actually used them before with pretty good results, only thing is that the cans are kinda small so painting something decently sized can add up. i used a transparent orange on top of a gold base to do my friends engine cover.

since youre just doing a few small pieces you should be good with a can or 2 to be safe. just hit it with some clear to give it that gloss.

You could try tiniting for emblems, it's going to be tricky but that is about the only way i can think of to get that black chrome look.

I'm not sure what trim bits you would use it on. The emblems are chromish so maybe those but the only other thing I could think of would be the inner door handles?

If they made something that would spray on chrome AND make is shadow, that would be tight. Then you could chrome-black whatever you wanted.

Oddly enough I learned this trick from you and it helps with the spotting quite a bit. Basically before you paint, take the black chrome paint and place it in a tub of hot water for like 10 minutes. Then use it. To get the black chrome effect, don't go more than 2 coats. I did 3 with my grill and it came out black. I ended up liking the black better. It came out with a deep rich black instead of the same old run of the mill gloss black. I also tried it on my turn signals, and corner lights. However, those didn't come out at all. There was a bad chemical reaction between the chrome and the black chrome tint. For those areas I decided to just go with Gloss black.

Hok makes a nice candy black now.

Although duplicolor has self etching properties for chrome where other paints will not, and will delaminate if not prepped correctly.

would you consider this black chrome?

base cleared every single piece of my A5 after sandblasting and smoothing it out. I think i slick super shiney black is the closest thing to a black chrome.

It looks more like a very shiny gloss black in the pictures (and it seems that's what it is, correct?)

I guess the look I was hoping for with the black chrome spray is almost like a deep wet look... basically, like a dark translucent overlay on chrome.

I might give it a shot. I think the spray kit is only 20 bucks or so, and the hood lip on my CTS-V is quite easy to remove.
Brandon, would I be able to safely remove spray paint from a chrome surface without damaging the chrome? I figure you'd know better than most.
