ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Possible solution to rust?

Well I searched and didn't find anything.

Now I 'hear' what causes rust up here in the north it is the road salt and "condensation".. But I just had a thought, I don't have access to a CB so I can't see this myself.

( Read below the line f you don't want to read my foolish but strange experiment)
    (backround)
I did an experiment with my toy cars a few years ago, I had two good quality Honda civic Sis, One however I sealed up any possible crack.I filled a metal case with water half filled, and put them in there. I forgot about them and lived life, two years later while cleaning my room I find the case and I open it, I see the water kinda brown/orangish

Both Civics had foggy orangeish windows. and Had to scrub the outside and repaint both cars

civic 1 with no seal: had rotted interior and rotted body.
civic 2 with the seal : had 'dirty' interior while the inside of the body was clean (just had to do some minor light wiping down).

    ______________________________________________

Is there a rubber seal that we can use in the rear wheels? The water and salt must get in through a small crack and we just let it be while it gathers up and slowly kills the body. The exterior we just clean, but we always skip to clean behind the panel, sideskirt, bumper, behind tires, under car, etc

edit: don't go too hard on me, I'm just trying to help out a little. 0:]

The reason we have such a big rust problem in the wheel wells is because of the deterioration of the factory seals. That concept of yours was actually implemented but apparently those areas didn't receive enough of it to prevent water from getting trapped in there. If I remember right I think its sort of a caulking they used. If you dont have any signs of rust there (lucky...) then it certainly wouldn't hurt to spray some rubber or caulk of your choice up in there. I read this in a thread a while back, if I stumble upon it, I'll give you the link.

Doesn't sound like a bad idea but i'm with Mvrik try to find the areas and put caulk in the cracks if they didn't already rust through.

inside the rear wheel well there is a flat lip where sand/dirt get's trapped. The sand/dirt retain moisture leading to rust. salt just makes it rust faster.

It's called undercoating and many dealers and aftermarket places do it, its best to do when the car is new. Kind of like spray on bed liner. Your best bet is to go down south and buy a rust free car, salt is a bitch.

Yes salt is a bitch i hate these Wisconsin winters, they just eat away our cars. But there are still those rust free ones lurking around here but most of them did come from the south.

Regularly rinsing the salt off your car will help as well.

Or just let it rust, and when it gets bad enough, have a new panel welded in. For us, that's the most common solution, since any 20 year old Accord in the Northeast is going to be rusted already anyway.

but what happens if the bare shell itself (behind the quarter panel you cutout) is rusted, that's what I don't want to happen. My friend bought a 95 civic coupe. And when he took it to his dads shop to change muffler, oil and suspension he lifted the car and saw the worst thing, the civic had a huge gaping rust hole on the bottom front passenger. (second car i see with that)
