problems washing my car every day?

Hey fellas, i work at a dealership and my boss lets me wash my car whenever i want to. All the car wash does is sprays it with water(no soap) spins the brushes, applies a spot free rinse, and blows it dry.

Is it bad for me to wash my 91 every other day or even once a week?

While doing it every day is totally on the verge of having an OCD, doing it weekly is just fine. I wash my car once a week at the DIY wash. Rinse, soapy foam brush, rinse off, pull outside and hand dry to spot free finish. Clean my wheels with rim cleaner, wipe them off, spray the tires with tire shine and clean my glass.

Spend less than an hour on it too.

I've already gone over it with a rubbing compound and a wax, and will need to reapply that again in a few weeks to retain the shine and lustre of my crackling 22 year old enamel paint.

Holy hell. Once a day is a bit much. Even without soap youre going to peel the wax off quickly. Once a week is the most I would personally do it, even if it was free.

I would keep it once a week. Simply due to the fact that too many washes could damage your clear coat.

You're better off hitting it with a spray on wax or exterior detailer for a quick wipe down between washes.

Avoid that brush like the plague. The brush will do more harm than good.

If you want to rub down the paint with something, try find either a microfiber wash mitt or a soft QEP grout sponge. Either of these won't mar your paint any further. Granted with white paint you won't see the swirls nearly as much, but if you ever end up with a darker car it will cause more problems. I've learned that the hard way.

A quick detailer between weekly washes is a wonderful thing. Makes the car all nice n shiny. Car shows cant tell if it was washed today or 5 days ago, LOL. Stupid judges.

I use this Turtle Wax black detailer on black cars at work when I'm prepping a car for a customer delivery. Glass-like shine with no streaks or water spots. This stuff is THE shit.


As for the brush...I've never had problems with the DIY car wash brushes, and I always thoroughly clean my wash brush at work daily.

If you use a machine wash, then it will definitely be bad for the paintjob. The brushes in the machines might not be absolutely clean and could sometimes have a lot of dirt in them, and it will create (small) marks on the paintjob. It's usually not noticeable if you only do it once in a while, but if you go through it every day then your paintjob will be full of tiny scratches.

I think the main concern with the brushes at the drive up DIY car wash places is you don't know who dropped the brush and what not before you got there. So if they is any sand, dirt, or foreign particles in there then it can possibly end up scratching the paint. You can often bucket was at those places as long as there is no line. I know the one by me states "No bucket washing if other customers are waiting."
