    Blackhousing Headlight Issue!

Ok so heres my problem.i have black housed my headlights before with vht nightshade and it was crap so i reopened my headlights 3 times cleaning them.it didnt help after a certain amount of weeks and decided to sand the vht all away and use 1200 degree engine enamel. Now the problem is about the 2nd and a half week of driving after driving through the night with the headlights on, the crystal seems to develop a foggy looking glaze and it happened with the vht before but now its also begging with the high heat engine enamel paint. My question is can this ugly fog be caused by the rtv silicone that i use or even the stain glass paint for the jdm yellow high beam?? this is what sets off my front end and i really dont like having a sloppy looking cb

    Thanks in advance!
    THEN

& NOW Very foggy as you can see really mad about this

might want to let them sit out after painting them i bet its just the chemicals in the paint that's released once it starts curing maybe paint them and let them sit out for a while on the plus side your getting a great seal on your headlights when you put them back together

Why didnt you just buy the krylon BBQ paint, that was you use for the blackhousing. There only $4, that night shade crap was about $12 I bet....

All you need is regular spraypaint to do blackhousing. They don't get hot enough to require anything high temp.

Anyway, the clouding could be the chemicals, or it could simply be due to you not resealing them properly, and that's condensation inside the glass.

Get rid of all that RTV and replace it with butyl rubber sealant from the retro fit source.

My bumper lights did this when they weren't sealed properly as well.

it is very possible to be that there not sealed properly but still might want to let them set out and cure so as to be sure its not the chemicals

I used RTV Copper Silicone to reseal my lights when I opened them. I also replaced all the little exterior moisture/expansion valve pieces and I've NEVER had any fogging issues. If you don't replace those little valve deals, the headlight can still breathe, but it doesn't stop moisture.
Don't ask me how they work, I don't know. I just know they are there to release pressure caused by air in the housing heating up with the lights on, and then keeping moisture out when they cool back down.

its been my experience that when they fog up its just the fact that they are not sealed properly take a look at your sealent and see if its sealed right good luck to you

If it is just moisture you can use a hair dryer in the holes for the bulbs and that should help it clear out, my guess is chemicals though from the new paint

Hmmm, I'm not too sure if its the chemicals fogging it up. I'm sure its condensation. Does it evaporate after a while? It shouldn't matter what u use to paint it (I blackhoused mine with black Duplicolor I'm not sure why everybody says use bbq paint). Like already said, I would just seal it again.

Thats actually an original idea there, not sure how practical it is having a silica pack up in your headlights but definitely something most people wouldn't have thought to do.
