ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Clear coat after polish

Im polishing some rims by wet sanding and then buffing them. would it be a good idea to cleat coat them when I'm done, or can they do without the cleatcoat?

Are you removing the paint, and polishing the bare metal? If so, definitely. If not... it's up to you, but the paint may not hold up very long, depending on the type.

Well to be more precise I'm restoring the the lips that were once polished but are dull now.
And now that i think of it since I'm going to end up using a really fine grit at the end the finish will be to smooth for the clear coat to stick. Correct me if I'm wrong?

I have a buddy who can polish metal into what looks like Chrome, I asked him about clear coating polished wheels and he didn't recommend it, said it won't stick or look right.... I also polished my old wheels on my z32 and when I cleared them it got a little dull... ask Typeg I'm sure he can clear it up

Polished lips will corrode quickly, though. You'll have to stay on top of that.

My wheels have polished lips, and I hate it. They're corroded to shit now. I just don't care. I only got them because they were $80 each, brand new (Konig Traction... now discontinued.)

Clear coating bare metal (regardless if clean, polished, smoothed ect) with rattle can type clear coat doesn't work well. It looks decent for about 3 weeks then you'll see it start to change texture and discolor and it's pretty thick.

The clear coat that is on OEM rims is applied much different than just sprayed on. It's thin flim and that will look different than thick rattle can spray on clear coat.

I did the same exact thing to my wheels (see sig) and what I ended up doing is after I polish them (at the end I use mothers polish it works better than the expensive detail shop professional shit.) I put a light coat of synthetic wax sealant, and it holds up pretty good to the elements and keeps them looking shinny for a while... I end up using the mothers polish on them about every 3 months and re seal with the synthetic wax... takes me about 45 seconds a wheel...

In Need of an engine, just a basic f22a...pm me if you have one willing to part with.

                  polish, then try SHARK HYDE
its basically a liquid metal protector
used it on a couple of polished brake boosters, and it held no rust yet
                  good shit

The first time I polished them (its only the lips BTW) it took me about an hour per wheel in sanding the different stages and then the buffing and polishing part...

But now that its nice and smooth, all I do is take a microfiber cloth with the mothers polish (3.99 at walmart) and do a quick one over and then reseal them with the wax. At most about a minute an a half per wheel when i'm done washing the car about every 3 months ...
