ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

I need to fix my clear coat.

Do you guys know any way to fix the ugly faded clear coat temporarily? I am saving up for a paint job. It is really bad on hood and trunk.

yeah was thinking that it looks bad.
unfortunately there is no real quick fix to chipped clear coat. it will need to be sanded back till its level and that will mean back to the paint and then youl need to get it sprayed. SO my suggestion would be to either wait till you can get it painted OR sand it back your self till its as smooth as a babies bum and them spray your hood and boot lid black just to make it more tidy for now.
you will need to be carefull if your gona use spray cans as it can leave uneven spray lines. but im sure if you do the prep work your self and get it nice and smooth then goto a spray painter and get them to primer and paint them it shouldn't cost to much till you can afford the correct color.
im not a panel beater or spray painter but thats what i would do....the prep work is where the bulk of the money goes so if you can do it your self it will save you. BUT make sure your prep work is absolutely DAMN good. bad prep can totally ruin a paint job

if you do start sanding you could end up exposing the bare metal. when i mean smooth as a babies bum i mean you would have to sand till everything is level and yip that could mean sanding through the paint aswell..sadly chipped clear coat isnt a super easy fix from my experience.

im sure there are panelbeaters/spraypainters on this site that might have a better solution.

I would just leave it alone. Whatever temporary fix you try could just cause more labor in the future when you have it done professionally. Aerosol paints aren't a good way to go with automotive applications anyhow. They don't stand up to weather and UV rays like professionally sprayed finishes do. I say save your money.

                  No temp fix...

It's almost impossible to sand it smooth to repaint without going through the color to the metal, I would say impossible for a regular paint job; theres ways to restore classic car paint to perfection it just takes perfection to do it. It may go alright on the flat areas but anything with a corner or curve will sand almost instantly to bare. Just hold out till you can do it right - if you use a rattle can, every bit of the spray paint will need to be removed and its a pain (constantly loads the sandpaper), also after some time in the sun it has bad effects. If you do a same color paint job it shouldn't be too bad on price, especially if you do some of the labor, like remove moldings, trim lights, ect...

Just buying some sand paper from the store will a. not sand level, and b. take 2 years by hand... you would need at least a random orbital sander, and sanding blocks AND be able to get it shot pretty quick.

Mine had really bad clear coat chipping and I did a repaint...twice - IDK if your interested in this kinda work but if you need any tips ask away.
