ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Chrome Trim

Now I've seen tons of pictures on this site of the various cars people are driving and one thing that always catches my eye is the chrome trim around all the windows and on the grill. I'm just curious if anyone has actually taken that off and painted it? I'd like to make it all black just to clean my car up some more but I'm worried that I'll ruin the seal around the door or cause irreparable damage to the car and need to have front and rear windshield reinstalled. Anything would help
Being normal is probably the lamest thing you can try to be

They are actually stainless steel. My paint guy took them off and broke several clips, and left the on the one around the back window and top strip above the front windshield. I did see a car on here that had these moldings painted black, It looked ok to me because to was a dark paint. I would keep in mind how expensive those are to replace.

I know a few people that have painted them... but yes, as said above, the clips are fragile. Especially after so many years! It may be easier to carefully mask them off and paint them while on the car. That goes for the window trim, obviously. The grille is easy to do.

try 1/2 in. black pin stripping , apply and trim off edges.that way you get the look and cheap price . may need larger stripping .

mj213 and drummersteve7 have both used it and swear by its results.

Shadowline tape, electrical tape, whatever. They're all just black vinyl tapes.

Cheap, low grade electrical tape adhesive will not hold up in the long run. Not many electrical tapes are meant for direct exposure to the outdoors and its elements.

Then again, electrical tape comes in a variety of grades. The stronger stuff might hold up fine.

Yeah... the one I saw didn't hold up...
it IS, however, a cheap way to see if the look is satisfactory before investing additional money. A $2 roll of cheap electrical tape is better than $18 for that stuff if you don't like it!

thanks guys, I think I'll try the electrical tape on one side to see how it looks and if it's alright I'll finish the whole car. Then again I'm sending my car away to get rust work and repaint white once the weather breaks and I save enough money up, maybe I'll see if body shop can paint it while it's in
