ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

What's your definition of "fixed".. because if you want it to look like new, it's not going to be cheap unless you have considerably bodywork experience (and since you're asking here... I assume that is not the case.)

Fixed, as in hard to notice from about 3 feet.

No, I don't have experience.. But I don't really feel like paying $1200 for labor when the quarter panel it self is like $50..
      ($1200 was my lowest quote.)

Get estimates at body shops nearby.

Edit: just saw your last post, dang that's a lot. I'd say go to the jy and get one off another cb7, and see how much they charge to paint it

Sorry, I just edited my post. $1200 was my lowest quote. Her insurance is paying me ($1299) in about 45(?) days.. I don't feel like waiting that long to get it fixed, and I KNOW $1200 is way to much for this.. I'm trying to get this done cheap, and have a lot of money left over.

EDIT:, and yea, that's pretty much what I'm asking.. HOW do you .. swap quarter panels out?.. Does it require huge machinery?

Nope, it requires cutting and welding, then grinding, sanding, filling, sanding and painting.

You can get into the trunk, pull the carpet out of the way and using various blunt (NOT POINTED OR SHARP) implements, use the trunk's internal bracing to work it back out to some extent. Just apply pressure slowly and take your time, and move the tools around as you go. It won't be perfect, but it will be better than that.

Can you name an exact tool for this?

                a hammer.

more specifically a shrinking hammer, polishing hammer, squaring hammer...
google is your friend, search for metal working techniques, the stuff you find will be very helpful.

I'm new to all this, and those tools look like they'd do the job pretty good. But I've only got a mallet. I'll see what I can do. Thanks for the help

A portapower and 2by4 works pretty well. Be sure what you push off of is solid like a frame rail or reinforcement. It will push it right out. Straighten the metal as much as possible on the 1/4 and floor. Drill and snatch bar work well also. The straighter you shape the metal the less bondo you will have to wipe and sand off. Grind and start slinging mud! Check all of your seams and gaps. Cracked seams might leak water. Way easier then splicing a 1/4 in new or used. IMO. Good luck and update. Some people pick it up fast.

You're saying a portapower wouldn't be more likely to flex the 2x4 rather than the quarter panel?

I do it all the time. Its just to spread out the pressure.

$1200 is reasonable. If you want it done right, and you want it good from 3' away... then it's going to cost. The quarter panel is not all that expensive, correct. The paint isn't cheap, but not terrible. However, they're going to have to cut the old panel out, weld the new one in carefully (done improperly, and you'll have a leaky rear window or leaky trunk... as well as rust issues in a very short time), then colormatching is a bitch, especially on an old car. I've been told by paint shops that it's cheaper to paint the whole car than it is to try to colormatch 20 year old paint.

It looks like they didn't get a body line, so its not too bad. You could probably get it mostly straightened back out, then take out any waves with body filler. A 2X4 and a hammer could get it close from inside the trunk, or a drill and slide hammer could also do the trick.
