ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Windshield Was Replaced

    Hello all,

Cracked windshield....it turned out to be a pressure crack according to the body place I took it to. None the less I had them replace my windshield with an aftermarket shaded one (and the rust removed that caused this crack). Looks the same. Now this is where the rant starts.

I picked it up, took a quick inspection and handed the guy the cash. As I was driving it home any speed past 60km/h I would get this lovely "air leaking in noise", It honestly sounded like I was flying in a plane past 60km/h. Got home, got it in my garage and took A look. Two chunks from the very front of my dash were missing...I guess they stuck to the original windshield. The weather stripping all around the windshield...wasnt even touching the new windshield, and to top it off there was some black glue on the actual windshield.

Being pissed I took it back and told my friend his "guy" was shit, but he reassured me that he has done good jobs and will do a good job on mine. So I decided I would take it back because he would fix his shit for free rather me going somewhere else and paying more. I waited a week for the original glue to dry (when it rained, water seeped in and dripped on my dash) and then took it back. I got it back last night.

Now the chunks have been filled and pretty well with the original pieces, I dont here any leaks of air when I am driving and it rained a bit and no leaks inside. When I took it home I noticed that it was def a better job and most of the weather stripping was on the windshield. The guy explained to me that the frame including the weather stripping was attached using clips...which given the age of the car were next to useless. Apperently thats why it was such a shit job before.

So that is my rant about getting a windshield replaced. I am kinda down cause it will never be the same, and I am also worried that regardless of most of the weather stripping being secure and tight with the windshield that I will still have water leaking in. I dont really have a good grasp on what is under the windshield frame...I would assume just a tight seal of glue? I might take some black silicon to the spaces between the weather stripping and windshield.

If anyone has any input feel free, I just needed a place to explain my frustrations and maybe get an opinion from other cb7 owners. I guess we will see if it leaks during my next trek in the rain.

    Thanks!

i install glass for a living. who ever did the job did a shitty job. the black glue that you are refuring to is actually called urethane. that is what seals the windshield to the pinchweld. the outer molding is just for looks. its actually a 3 piece moulding that clips on after the glass is installed. what most likely happend when they were installing it is maybe they got thier fingers or somthing in the bead of urethane and it didnt make contact with the glass, which gave you your wind noise and leak.so they probably resealed where it was leaking from the inside which most likely stopped the noise and leak.

You can not hurt me, I have my helmet on

i had a water leak too, and i used black silicone like were thinking, and it stopped my leak, so i would say if you want to use the silicone, go ahead, it worked for me, it weird cuz the water comes in the sides, but dripped down under the dash onto the floor but now I'm all good, and i would def. 2nd the notion of using silicone to cover up any left out areas
