ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    Bare Metal CB7's?

Has anyone seen any CB7's with a bare metal finish? I'm wondering how it would look. Kinda like a better looking DeLorean.

I assume the only way it would work is if you sprayed clear over the metal once you were done sanding everything down.

Any thoughts or opinions on how this would look?

I think it would be interesting and different, but our bumpers are plastic, so the whole metal car look wouldn't work too well

i've seen people use penetrating oil instead of clear coat. clear coat doesn't adhere all that well to bare steel. later.

No, he means stripping all the paint off and somehow preserving the bare metal look. Like a DeLorean is made of stainless steel, and isn't painted.

Idk if this possible or not; not an expert or anything. You might be able to find someone who will paint your car to look like its bare metal: someone might be able to do that and that solves the whole plastic bumper problem. just an idea

could clear powder coat...be pricey though...hella pricey.

But as others pointed out, there are a LOT of other plastic parts on the car...the bumpers being the biggest I can think of...door handles (shave 'em), trim (shave it), but the bumpers would be odd ball...maybe if you gloss blacked the bumpers?

Type G, how long would a layer of penetrating oil last? Month or so before needing re-apply?

Heavy rain, salted roads... "shudder" I do not think it would last very long before rusting.

Well if you think about it the bumpers are black on some CB's anyways and a lot of the black plastic parts are accents in the first place. I don't think it would kill the look to have the black abs bumpers and accents, although it might be a good choice to get rid of the side moldings.

Also one thing I forgot to mention in the OP is that chrome-like paint they have out there. Example:

I'm just wondering how these 'different' looks might play out. I'm not necessarily serious about doing this, but I'd like to see if anyone else has done it and see how it would look.

I don't think that's actually "chrome like paint". I believe that's actually chrome.

How would you go about chrome plating a quarter panel and then re-installing it without messing up the finish?

There is a chrome paint kit sold by the Alsa Corp, it's not actually chrome plating. They painted the BMW in the above picture.

I always wondered about this, I think we can pull it off with our cars, with the DX theme of blk bumpers, ill do my moldings as well.

As stated clear won't stick proper.. Another solution will do, I seen it on one of them car shows on tv, guy put a angle grinder to the hood and made a design on, and use some type of special clear they were testing out, looked way dope.
