Wheel Well Rust

This is what I think i am going to plan on doing.

Buy a replacement panel ~$60.00
Get someone to weld it - (Looking for someone to do it!) Price? ~ Unknown
Paint and Finish - Myself

I think I will save a lot more money doing it this way...

you nailed it here. Get someone who knows how to weld (that metal is really thin and hard to weld).

grind down tthe rough spots, then use fiberglass filler to smooth it out.

thin layer of bondo will smooth it out even more before you prime.

sand, prime, sand, prime, sand, prime, till you have it perfect, then prime paint and clear.

It took me a few tries with the paint. Be patient, and if it doesn't work or you screw it up, sand it all off and try again. Wetsanding will help alot. Patience patience patience is everything.

I did it, rattle canned dupli color - color match, then clear. Its been holding 3 winters now, and I probably only spent $100-200 on the repair.

i've heard that water gets trapped in those rust spots due to the rubber strips that honda puts on our wheel wells. i removed mine and painted the inner well with bedliner stuff. not sure if its true or not. just what i heard.

use that bedliner stuff too, it will keep the rock chips away.

anyway... what did it end up costing you? that is the exact panel I plan on using...

Most effective: Panel replacement.
Temporary fix: Bondo/fiberglass work.

Also check out por15.com, it's good shit. I used it to seal seams and edges after I did panel replacement. Rust hasn't come back so far, so good.

fiberglass doesnt absorb moisture, it's a fairly permanent repair. I used it to smooth out the welds, etc, and to get the perfect shape back.

Bondo, on the other hand, is a no-no for major repair. I only used it in a THIN coat, because it is smoother and easier to work with than the fiberglass I had, and makes a nice surface to paint on.

Been there, done that. Repaired my 3g with bondo, that stuff just cracked and fell off. Its sad, because I see people on here trying that stuff all the time.
