tire size for my rims

Im about to purchase some 16" Rota Jmags in acouple of weeks, i was wondering what size tires should i get. I was thinking of getting 205/40/16 or 215/40/16 tires, what do you guys think? and the car is going to be lowered about 2.5"-3" (well sitting even with top of tire). Thanks

to keep from rubbing, i say 205/45 or 205/50s. either will do fine. theres no reason to go down to 40 series unless your trying to be slammed. 45s or 50s will do right nicely and still allow you to keep a nice ride.

Cool, yea i dont want it to be slammed but i want it to be low and the fender to sit right on top of tire (no gap).....thanks man.

i did 16s and i went with a 195/50/16 tire is not to wide and the ride is comfortable. i would also consider the road conditions were you live. i saw a car that had tires at 205/60/16 looked confortable and the car was still low..

205/55 above is just fat.
205/40 will be abit harsh.
205/45 is ideal.
205/50 has cushion.

I used to have a set of 17's with 215/45 tires, and after denting rims and blowing tires on NYC potholes, I went down to 16" rims with a 205/50 tire. I have to say it's the best ride I've had on my CB7.

i got 205/55/r16 anddd i hate the tire is to fat, and it rubs on the driver, 205/50 would be good but i think 205-45 would be wut u want

Why are people suggesting 205/45? It's a smaller diameter tire than stock. It's going to increase your wheel gap. The radius on that tire is about 0.5" smaller than the stock tire. So you're gaining wheel gap, while losing sidewall to protect your wheels against damage. I suppose it's okay if you like the rubber band look.

205/50-16 is the proper +1 tire size over the stock 195/60-15 EX wheel. You won't have a noticeable difference in tire size as far as overall tire circumference/diameter/radius is concerned, and you'll have a little more sidewall to protect your wheels.

If you were feeling really adventurous, you could up to a 215/50-16 and most likely be able to run that, unless you had very wide wheels and were slammed.

I too use that tire calculator, and you should have him let know that running 205/45 is also going to make his cars speedo read incorrect. So when he gets pulled over his and his ticket is about 5 miles over what he was actually doing, it'll be because his tires are too small.

Actually, a smaller tire would result in the speedometer to read faster.

End result for 7.3% faster reading = speedo reads 60mph; 55.6 mph actual.

So you would really have to be speeding to get a 5mph over ticket.

Sorry, I misread the calculator, he'd actually be slower. I just recently had a tire size issue with my brother tsx. His stock size is 215/50/17. He went with a 215/55/17, now his speedo reading slower than he's actually traveling. It's been stuck in my head for some stupid reason. So to the OP I apologize for the misinformation.
