ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

need opinions on body work (which route to go)

alright so i'm talking to a guy and trying to get everything setup to get my rust fixed and then painted. anyways... he's left me with two routes to go

    1. buy a full left quarter panel (~$500 from majestic honda) and a patch panel (~$50 from tasauto) and then he would charge me about $750. this, in my opinion and probably most, would be the best route because i have rust near my left taillight and a full quarter panel would eliminate the need to custom fab that piece from sheet metal. total cost ~$1300.

    or

    2. buy both left and right hand patch panels from tasauto (~$100) and then have the guy cut out the rust near my taillight and custom fabricate that spot from sheet metal. but i'm a little worried about how well he'll be able to match that taillight spot. other than that, the patch panels should cover the entire rust area around my rear wheels. this would cost me about $850-$1000.

thoughts? i'm almost leaning toward the cheaper route because i still need a little money to have the car painted but i don't know....

edit: you can see the extent of the rust and faded paint here. this is the side that got hit with cancer even worse. (yes, the bumper/trunk will be replaced)

Well not for nothin, but u could prob pick up a newer CB from a southern state for about the same. They gotta have some fresh CBs in Missouri/Kansas. It would be a pain to swap the suspension and stuff over, but ud prob save $$$ as u could then sell ur car afterwards

definitely. have you also thought about tracking down someone on CL with a parts car, (or visiting the JY) and asking if/ bringing a Sawsall with you to cut this section from another CB? that could save you a pretty penny.
          My pictures/photos will return soon...

Not even... if he's ready to plop down $1000 for body work, he could just get another running car and transfer stuff over. Only issue would be registration, which can't be that much in IL.

i'm not wanting a new car, my engine runs great and i don't want to swap anything over. i also don't want to cut old metal off of a car that's just going onto a car that's as old as the donor.

i'm simply asking which method you think i should go for. should i go with (1) the slightly more expensive route that will have great results or (2) the cheaper route that will still look great but may not turn out as good as it would if i were to get a full quarter?

sorry if my last post came off a little dickheadish, i had just got out of my last final exam and was pissed because i didn't know anything on it lol thanks for the replies. 92smokeaccord, there's a spot about the size of a nickel where the rust has eaten through but the rest is on its way there.

i talked to the guy who's painting my car (who is currently giving me estimates based the previous work he's had done by his body guy) and the cheaper route should cost me about 800 for labor (and then i provide the patches). that's going to be for him replacing the wheel arch rust, fixing the rust by the tail, the rust on the bottom corners of the doors and probably just smoothing everything out. so that will most likely be my choice

that tail area is really small.eatheir way u go there is still that chance that it wont line up right.i would have this guy show u proff off his work be for the buy.

Do it once, and do it right and get the full OEM panel for the side with the rust in the back.

Btw, I hope that quote from your body guy includes rebuilding the inner wheel houses.
