ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Non-permenant Red on tails

    So I got some all clears...and a thought occured to me...I have colored LED bulbs so I COULD leave them all clear...so I'm not sure what I want to do;
red/clear, clear/red, some other color combo, smoked, all red, all clear, combo of said...or some other design I haven't come up with yet.

Is there some sort of film or other coating I can use for smoking and making them red or other colors? Like tint instead of paint? Or...an easily removable coating?

Main issue is wrapping it...I'm sure I'd end up with creases like crazy.

I don't want to have to wet sand these each time I go to re-color as that would slowly degrade the thickness of the material, and depending on my polishing skills, they may not turn out smooth.

Anyone have suggestions or guidance, I don't mind finding out for myself, I just need some direction.

If you painted them couldn't you just use paint thinner instead of sanding them to remove it? The only other thing I can think of is looking for colored tint or searching for some type of clear vinyl.

Yeah you could use paint thinner or brake/carb cleaner. Worked fine for my tails that I didn't want smoked anymore (I used the VHT transparent paint.)

hmmm...vinyl and blowdryer may be a good idea, thanks!

I'll try paint thinner on the other three all clear tails I have, that I've yet to clean off. Course the paint that is on them is shitty and thin. See how that turns out too.

thanks for the ideas, I'll keep looking into options though.

I've painted a few sets of tails before.

You can apply Krylon Stained Glass paint in two even coats, followed by clear coat over the ENTIRE tail light, and the results are quite stunning! They always turn out great if you take your time.

Keep a bottle of paint thinner (I suggest acetone) at hand, to remove excess paint. Acetone will most definitely remove Krylon Stained Glass paint and clear coat without any issues. Minimal sanding, if at all, is required.

Trust me, you won't have to worry about sanding the plastic through. They can take it. If you're using 1000-2000 grit sandpaper, do you know how much plastic you're actually removing? It's quite minimal. 1000 grit will remove the paint layers. 2000 grit should level them out, and begin the polishing process.

Use a canvas buffing wheel and PlastX or Mother's plastic polish to finish/repolish after you've removed the paint and clear coat, or once you've finished applying them (for a great finish).
                My pictures/photos will return soon...

I'll try the vinyl first, if I don't like it then I'll test a small spot with krylon and acetone.

                  Thanks for more advice.
