Adding Homelink and Maplights

I searched and didn't come up with any posts about adding a homelink so I thought I would share. I added the CL overhead maplight/homelink to my 90 lx. It is basically the same as adding in any other of the maplights

made a template


cut out the hole


added wood mounting blocks and tapped in threads


wired it to the dome light


used a plug off an old harness


mounted up


It is tan and still needs to be painted but I am going to wait untill after I recover the headliner

Hmm interesting, does the Homelink function? I made my own DIY "homelink" using an old garage door remote with the button extended and mounted in the center console. It worked great until my garage door opener died.

I wired up the maplights into dome light so they come on with door open, with dome light switched on. They still work independently with the normal maplight switches.

I tied into the dome light behind the on/door/off switch so I could defeat door trigger when leaving the doors open for a while


at the homelink, The swithes are double throw so I soldered wires into the the unused normally closed contact. These keeps everything isolated without having to use diodes.


Both swithes are wired up to single contact point that connects to center pin of homelink connnector. This way it will unplug with factory connector
