Should I paint my car with a WEENIE ROLLER?!

The title says it all. I've seen these pages in a few places across the net, and to me, it seems like it'd work. Then again, that's exactly what those get rich quick schemes want you to think by "posting links on Google..." (Speaking of which, I never got my money back... maybe I should work on that soon).


At any rate, I'm looking at painting my car, because it needs it. Black I think would be an appropriate color. The only thing is, I don't have an extra 3,000 or 4,000 to drop on a paint job. I've got about fifty bucks, and I don't think a rattlecan job is what I'm lookin' for. Sure, you get what you pay for, but this may be my lucky break. Questions? Comments? If I get enough "yay's" (go for it), I'll do it, and post pictures of each step of the process.

At this point, I'm wanting to do anything to change the color... I'm getting a few bits of cancer that'll be easily repairable with bondo, and primer.

Yea I've been wanting to paint my car myself for awhile now and after seeing those pics of the roller job not to mention the cheap cost im really considering doing this. I would just like to know how to put the pinstripe back on?

I was going to do this. Did it to a spare hood I had, and it worked well enough. Never finished.

Checking new post the other night I came across gfrg88's post about painting his car with a roller and it's the first time I'd ever heard of this method . I checked it out and then followed the link to rexload's paint thread and it's hard to dismiss his results . After that I spent a good 2 hours following links and was realy sursrized at how good of a job people were doing with rollers . I've seen several rattle can jobs over the years and I've never seen a rattle can paint job that looked as good as the average roller job I was seeing in the pictures and some of the better jobs looked as good as factory paint . Maybe it would be different in person , but the pictures showed some really nice looking projects . From what I read , with all the water sanding between coats , that a roller job would be as good as the labor that you put into it . If you have more time than money and are willing to do allot of sanding I think it's worth trying . I don't think that the cheaper paint will stand up like true automotive finishes , but you're not spending $400 plus on paint . If you give it a try , post up the pics .

Hot Rod Magazine had an article on this stuff..you can do it and actually if you put enough thin coats on it...you can wet sand it and make it look presentable. Good luck.
