    common leaks in trunk?

I've purchased a 1990 5spd sedan recently. And plan to put in a decent sound system. But the trunk has medium surface rust. And rain leaks into there. so my question is are there common leaks in the trunks of these vehicles? There is no plane sight of where the water is comming in at. But i will take out all the carpet and plastic linings in the morning. Maybe i'll find out then. Thanks in advance.

      Mines Never leaked

find the source of the leak....
maybe something like glue that's waterproof to seal where the water is coming
      in through

or maybe the plastic rubber thingy around ur trunk has been torn up and is leaking thru them

      who knows

water can come into the trunk many ways, but the most common is due to faulty gaskets in the tail lights. other points of ingress is the insulation around your trunk lid and cracks in the garnish around the rear windshield.

search the topic, because there are many helpful threads that might be able to help you out.

Also the rubber seal that seals the boot (around the edge) has a habit of rusting out the lip it sits on causing a leak.
And also another common leak location is the trim around the window, where the holes for the trim clips rust out.

open the trunk -> open access to both tail light -> get cup of water -> Pour it in the center of the trunk behind the gasket -> look where the leak is

I did that and found out both of my tail lights are leaking.

got to go buy some proxy glue and seal it

In my car, water seeps thru' the weather strip around the rear windscreen.

There seems to be a hole which has been rusted thru some where in the rear bulkhead, of which I havent found as yet.

And I got the car repainted around a year and a half ago

Mine leaks because the rear window trim is missing. "Great Stuff" foam insulation fixed this for me...although it's just a temp, quick fix.

Well found the problem both rear wheel wells are rusted thru in a spot or two. Looks like time for some fiberglass work "good thing i make glass speaker box's". And i think i'll use a couple cans of that expanding foam. Also thanks for the ideas guys!

Well at least tear'n everything out was a lot easier than i thought it would be. Took about 45 minutes to do. and now that the seats are out and all the carpet i've run all my amp wires. Just gotta seal up the holes and get rid of the rust so moisture won't kill my amp!

The clips on the rear window molding can be troublesome.

That's a good guide to replacing them.

The antenna hole can also pose a problem.
