you can get them for as cheap as $60 when they're first born and the bigger they get, the more expensive. i paid $85 from glades herp because i know they're reputable and we have ties to them. and yeah, they can get up to 150-200lbs and that's a VERY large animal. they're easy going and not too difficult to care for. i just had to pay $40 for a damn light bulb though, but they need their UVB rays or they won't be healthy. eats mostly grass/hey with a few veggies mixed in. temps around 75-85 degrees or so. they do better when you can leave them outside but it gets too cool here in november through february. when it's 70 and above, he'll be outside as much as he can stand it.

that's not all my snakes either. and yeah, i freaking love them. almost anyone that gives them a chance just finds them fascinating. they have no legs but the black mamba has been clocked at speeds a human would consider a sprint. they can go a year without anything to eat and can eat things much larger than they are. they can kill in many different ways and have adapted to everything but very cold weather (fea's viper can handle what we consider chilly/cold weather).

they're just totally unique and fascinating

they're in a big walk in closet that was modified to be lockable and escape proof.

yes, they're venomous snakes, if i don't use my hooks and shiftboxes, they'd happily bite me. snakes don't "love" their owners and had rather be left alone. sometimes i have to forcefeed sick snakes, medicate them, play vet, etc.

when dealing with venomous snakes, you have to be perfect or you will suffer for your mistakes.

i found out that copperheads arent very aggressive tho. just handle them properly and you wont upset them.

as with any animal, just make it feel safe.

NONE are VERY aggressive, the western species (western diamondbacks, mohaves, blacktails) are VERY DEFENSIVE though.

most of the eastern species are more deceptive and had rather warn you to death until they just have to bite. almost all snakes will rattles their tails against leaves and stuff to make a warning noise, they'll hiss a bit and that's IF they can't be perfectly still and be overlooked. you'd be surprised at how many dangerous snakes had rather just hide than fight with you.

most of my snakes are easy going, but a few would love to kill me. my 6' female canebrake (timber rattler) would be the wrong snake to fuck with on any given day. for years, she's been extremely aggressive and she's capable of about a 4-5' strike, which is a LOT. she's fast as hell too. she still keeps me on my toes after all these years. even scary at times.

if i'm ever bitten, she'll probably be the one to do it. one tiny mistake and she will tag you.

her fangs are long enough to go through my hand too. she's a mean girl.

thats so tru man. and there have been a few cases where a snake has bitten someone but didnt inject any venom. being that takes a while for a snake to produce venom. it would rather use it on its dinner than a human it cant eat.

What are the kind of snakes that can eat human whole? I've heard a few stories where some people had to cut open a snake to get a human out, who i'm assuming was dead. How do all those people with snakes around their necks and stuff not get bitten?
