Second good Samaritan this week attacked

RIALTO -- A pizza deliveryman who stopped to help a woman lying in the street was beaten, robbed and carjacked early today.
The deliveryman was driving in the 1000 block of North Lilac Avenue at 12:20 a.m. when he saw the woman in the middle of the road, said Rialto police Sgt. Don Lewis.
He thought she was hurt, so he pulls up and thought he was doing the good Samaritan thing, Lewis said. But the woman was actually part of a ruse.
A man ran out of the bushes, beat the victim and stole his wallet and keys. The man jumped into the driver s vehicle, which had pizzas inside, Lewis said.
The last thing he remembered was seeing the girl get up off the roadway and jump into the passenger seat of the car, Lewis said.
Police said the driver did not have a restaurant sign on his car and that many drivers have stopped doing that to avoid being targeted for robbery.
It was the second good Samaritan robbery in the Inland Empire this week. A 33-year-old Highland man was carjacked, beaten and stabbed after he agreed to drive a woman home at 8:51 p.m. Tuesday. The woman had him drive to an apartment complex on Los Feliz Drive in Highland. When they pulled up to the driveway, she grabbed the car keys and two men approached
the car. They punched and stabbed the victim. He was hospitalized, but police said he was expected to recover.
The pizza deliveryman, who is in his mid-20 s, received a bruised face and was not hospitalized. The stolen vehicle is a green 1996 Honda Accord with the license number 3PPE982.
