      Failed emissions at BAR test

      I can't really figure it out. I just replaced the old CAT for a new magnaflow one last week. The engine was plenty warm for the test. Maybe the new CAT is a POS?

      All sparkplugs/wires etc etc were replaced when I did the swap a year ago.

      So the 25mph test was a pass.
      The 15mph failed in HC and NO. HC was 172, max being 116. NO was 1222! max being 791.

      Visually everything passed except the JDM p13. The tech said I have to get the USDM p13, and that it "would make a big difference" in emissions.

      But he also said there were several reasons it may have failed, but "I can't tell you any of them"

      This was at Chaffee college. Anyhow, I'm going to take a look at my sparkplugs, adjust the valves, clean the EGR ports, get a usdm P13 or maybe borrow one. Maybe get a bigger 3-way CAT.

          I would clean my egr ports, change my oil before i you take it again, new spark plugs and make sure your cat is Hot before you take it in.. Did u turn your car off during the inspection? If so the catalytic converter will cool down within ten or so minutes.. Depending on what catalytic converter you purchased, be aware they don't work as well as a OEM one.. It also could be your O2 sensor.

            Don't bring up BAR with craig...I passed in only 2 passes and he had to go back a few times. I got lucky $50 cat and a jdm p13 or what i thought was jdm. Oh well. good luck on bar.

                I would def. look into a new o2 sensor from the dealer. not auto zone.

                165 hp 149 ft. lb. torque sohc non vtec. then....
                184 whp and 149 ft. lb. torque f20b stock now......

                  hey joesue....your AT P13 is a POS.....i put my POS ecu back in there and my car idle good and no more check engine light....but ima through it in the cb and see wat happens...will keep you update....

                        id go to southwestern college in san diego to get it done. most of the sd guys bar'd their car there even with the jdm p13. the guy is pretty chill about too and says he hates cops because they dont know shit about smog and visuals. plus he did give craig his nick name "beefy" craig and jaime had to do it 2twice.

                          Thanks craig, well the spark plugs and o2 sensor are OEM and only 1 year (12,000 miles) old. I left my car running, but when the tech's brought it inside, they turned it off and did their visuals first. I'd say it took them up to 20 minutes to do the visual before they turned the car on again

                          The cat is a cheepo $70 magnaflow new from ebay.

                            If worse comes to worse I'll do that. I still have a free re-test comming. These guys at Chaffee college put a sniffer tube that completely encompasses the entire exhaust opening. I've never seen that done before. Usually smog techs put a sniffer thingy inside or right in front of the exhaust pipe.

                            Anyhow my spark plugs look good, but my EGR was caked with carbon buildup. It wasn't completely choking the egr valve but it was getting there.

                              I just noticed on the visual result "wiring to sensors" says modified. Well no shit. Unless they are talking about the ECU being JDM.

                                Wiring to sensor is modified not the fuel cap. The way the paper is always tricks people.
