The "Tips" they give are jackass! My 92 wagon was ..with outkeys in it, parked in a well lighted area and locked tight.....and from Canyon Country it was found in Azusa (60 miles away). Shit ass tow company said I shouldn't have left the key in it. Asshole didn't notice it was a small mailbox key! That is what guy used to open the door and drive it away. I had to pay the yard (When the world is ending....I'll shoot tow truck drivers first!
Best bet is to remove a fuse from the engine compartment fuse box and take it with you if you can be sure nobody sees you do it. Worth the trouble!

lol tow truck drivers can be annoying.

A month ago, I had my car towed in Glendale. My 2-way alarm notified me, when I was about two blocks away, that my car was being tampered with. I started running back towards where I parked to see the tow truck pulling out onto Central. I start running and yelling for him to pull over, partly because I wanted to know where his impound lot was, and partly because I wasn't sure if he was just a thief.

Anyway over the course of the next 12 blocks, I managed to catch up to his tow truck on foot, jump onto his running board and get him to pull over. His first reaction was, 'I saw you back there but I didn't feel like pulling over. How'd you catch up?!'

It's not that parking enforcement tow truck drivers are inherently bad people, but the way they operate is fairly sneaky. The driver was in no way cooperative, even after he admitted that he wasn't really sure if I was in the wrong.

nice, i tried to do that with a cab where I left my phone in the back seat--never caught up ahah.

someone just recently had their car stolen at a Norms restraunt parking between 10pm-11pm on honda-tech. Just goes to show all they need is a 1 hour window, and your car not being within sight to get you.

Don't forget what the Azusa tow yard found in my ignition.....little gold mailbox key.....and they charged me over $200 to get my STOLEN car out!
Like I said, if you don't mind the time, open the engine fuse box and take out the red 10amp for the ECU. The car will not start and no hot wire can make it. Do you think a thief has the time to find a way to open your door, turn his key and find it wont start and then take the time to open your hood to check for a fuse (if they know)?
Oh at night you may want to carry a flashlight, that fuse is a bitch to R/R in the dark.

PS Tow drivers sometimes are cool, it's the entire practice that isn't. For all I know the companies might pay someone to steal your car so you'll pay for the release.

it is fact that some tow truck drivers are aiding thieves in stealing cars. Some of the most well protected cars out there have been stolen and at the scene there is nothing left but visible signs of scratches on the asphalt from the car being dragged up a tow truck.

Recovered rolling and non-rolling shells with no motors end up in random industrial areas--they didnt get there on hopes and dreams.

All we can hope for is to protect our Honda short of hiring a guy with a shotgun to stand guard while we are not in it. Like I said, take the 10Amp fuse out of the under hood fuse box. It is the ECU
We also need to have extreme laws for tow companies as to validity of the need to actually tow a parked vehicle as well as a reasonable amount for the impound. I don't believe any person should pay to recover their stolen vehicle! That is ransom money. I have no problem with a tax that would cover the cost. Imagine calling the fire department and them telling you to give them $200 cash (no credit cards like the tow companies tell you) before they apply water?

The only drawback i see to pulling the ecu fuse is popping your hood to remove this fuse. Sure it should only take a few seconds to remove this fuse, but what if somone is watching your car and they see you pop your hood.. They can tell if you got a swap or if your stock. Heck whenever i see a accord with their hood popped either on the side of the road, or in a parking lot I look to see if they got a motor swap.

I've had two cars stolen and only one recovered. I was fortunate they found my cb7 with minimal things missing.

*I suggest if you got a removable steering wheel that you take it off everytime.
*Also stereo faceplates, remove them because most of the time the thieves are attracted to expensive stereo decks.
*remove the ecu - kind of the same thing as pulling the ecu fuse
                    *Car alarm
                    *Kill switches

Lastly yes i had to pay to get my car out of police impound and yes i used my credit/bank card to pay for it. I guess every tow company is different but i got reimbursed by my insurance company so in the end it didnt cost me a dime.

but as everyone has stated in this thread. protect your cb7 day in and day out..

Somewhere in my post I did say to make sure you don't have anyone seeing you pop the hood. Removing the ECU? How is that done?
Anyway hope we all got some tips from all this and keep our 7's and in my case 9's too all safe from A-holes.

could get a real long version of this

extends any fuse possibly into your cabin, perhaps via through the firewall cap near the charcoal cannister.

to avoid a tow truck from towing your car, park where a light pole or curb is right infront your car and then steer your wheels all the way to the right and put a club on the steering wheel,

if someone tries to tow it , it will make a lot of noise and force the driver to hopefully give up,
