help me pick a smartphone

my current contract is ending and would like some info, first hand experiences, etc on the current smartphones out there. i have verizonwireless and love the coverage. i do want to try out 3G since leo has the new google phone under tmobile and the features are great with decent browsing speeds, GPS, cool little apps, etc. att has of course the iphone but that's too trendy. verizon has the blackberry storm but i kinda don't like the fact that it doesn't support WIFI nor does it have a trackball. oh the choices!

i don't mind switching providers just as long as i can keep my current number. also any hookups or deals are appreciated. insights?!

well i have the HTC dash from tmobile ,its a pretty neat fone dropped it so many times still works, it has the windows mobile so u can put like words, powerpoint etc. and save it there,and its has camera and such wich isnt that bad, just doesnt have flash, i got it for $100 from tmobile. if not jjust get the blackberry curve pretty cool too

I'm VERY opinionated with phones. But here we go. I'll just say now I don't like any current offerings, but I've made do.

G1 - is a cool phone, good ideas. It's just not fully done. From app to app the layout can change, you can't close apps. It's still a BETA phone really. It's cool but I think the next "g phone" will have it together. Or give this one some time. It's also bulky, and feels like it will break to me. My friend (nerdy - like me) just got one and he loves it. His complaints are that it's a BETA though. I feel like it'd be a phone to mess with. I LOVED my sk (minus the dumb cheesy look) and the same guy developed the OS for both.

iPhone - Trendy but great! This is what I have. It's SLOW and it doesn't run apps in the background. So that means everytime you switch apps (say texting to browser) you have to close browser, then load text. This is annoying me. Most smart phones leave apps open. Needs some more copy/paste stuff. But browser is AWESOME and you can't beat always having an iPod with dock connector. (I use it all the time, EVERYONE around you has a charger and there are docks for iPods everywhere you look.)

Storm - Played with them a lot. I think it's the best iPHone competitor. Screen feels nice, and the click is very solid. No wifi isn't so bad when you have 3g. I see the main drawback in the typing. Since you have to wait for just ONE button to go down and up it limits your typing speed. I can type WAY faster on the iPhone. But hte browser is good, touch is good, and blackberry's are well thought out developed phones.

Blackberry Curve 8900 - it's on it's way. No 3g so you're out of luck here. But it has a high screen res than iPHone/BB Bold and it's a nice small size. Keyboard reviews have been good. And it's supposed to be FAST. it does have wifi and the BB reliability and support. (lots of apps out for BB.) I'm waiting for this phone to hit t-mo in february. Selling my iPhone (which I use on T-mo) Think BB Bold if you don't mind bigger size and want 3g.

Palm Pre - Coming soon. Looks awesome! The interface looks great and pretty fast. It has a full touch screen and a full keyboard. Keybaord looks small but I've heard it's usable for sure. I think this phone looks like it could be the best all around if you want a touch screen.

PS - I hate windows mobile... so I don't really play with phones that have it. It's slow and cumbersome, and made by MS. I also don't like windows. So I'm biased there. On a side not I fucking love Bill Gates.

Stay away from phones that are running on Windows Mobil 6.1. Its a pain in the ass and makes the phone run a lot slower. I currently have the AT&T tilt and it runs slow because of the Windows Mobil. My contract is up as well and plan to upgrade to the iPhone 3g 16gb.

It all depends on what you'll be using the SmartPhone for. If its for web browsing, instant messaging and text, I would prefer an HTC phone.

Timmy I am in the same boat as you, I have Verizon wireless, and I still have my 3 yr old piece of shit phone, don't switch to another provider you'll regret it. Ive gone through all of them except for t-moble and I can guarantee you that Verizon has the best coverage in socal HANDS DOWN. Verizon is the only phone company that I still get service in canyons. Also I was going to pick up the voyager and then the storm but that lack of wi-fi KILLS IT. Verizon are pricks when it comes to that because they want you to pay them to search the internet instead of connecting to router's for internet. That's the only reason why I haven't bought either one, I mean how the fuck do you call something an I-pod killer and it doesn't have wi-fi, fucking wack. Anyways if I where you I would wait, as At&t's contract with apple is suppose to run out in a year, and rumor has it apple is fed up with At&t's bs service and will be looking to sign a deal with verizon. Hell originally apple approached verizon to release there iphone, but verizon declined stating that they didn't want competition with there blackberry =/ =/ =/,that is the only reason why the iphone came out for at&t..... fucking idiots at verizon, but damn there good service/reception.

HTC phone is the shit... right. Just like the bulky cheap feeling shitty keyboard G1. Haven't played with a lot of HTC but I dunno, wouldn't call iPhone/BB shitty. People love to hate.

BETA is like a pre release. It's a testing version. Basically it means you can use this but any errors don't blame us because it's not the final version. Google uses BETA versions a lot.
