I started as courtesy clerk and then 6 months later moved onto Night crew and worked alot of over time to get through my scales.. Pay is okay at 14.35 and pretty good benifits. i would like to get to the seafood dept. and then to meat but i cant seem to ever get an application the the manager... he finds me says he has an opening, i apply and then he gets mad at me because he never got my app.
it doesn't pay bad. scale tops out at 17.95 an hour and i think close to 21.00 in the meat dept.
oh and before anyone says it. i could go up front and become a checker. i would lose about 20 hours a week and be making even less money and take forever to get to 1040 hours for a raiseComment

yeah but you dont want a safeway job, it blows they try to screw you when they get the chance too. i was working only two weeks as a checker, but then i got moved into bakery i was there for like 2 month and then produce wanted me, i asked the bakery manager if i could go to produce cause i would make more and i like the hours over there, right after i asked him
he caned me right on the spot and wanted me to still finish the day, i told him to fuck off and then went to the manager of the store and told him my story, he said to bad once im fired im done so yeah, dont work there

Being in the union they can't just fire you like that. Basically the only way you can be fired on the spot is if you were caught stealing, drunk or you hit someone. It takes something pretty serious to get canned like that. Being in the grocery buisness for 11 years I have always heard crappy things about Safeway.Comment
