woot! umm since we are a organized group, and NON COMMERCIAL $5 dollar per person versus $15!! i forgot we have a entrance fee! durh! NAtional parks...gotta make their money!

umm as for meeting up Josh...i know there are people from way north that are coming down to federal way to meet...then i think we are rolling to tacoma to meet up with BBBhondaCb793 and his peeps. So since the mountain is basically southeast of tacoma area u CAN meet up with the rest of us in tacoma, and then roll to the meeting place before we head up to the mountain area!

i would recommend buying snacks/food/juice/drinks before we go UP to the observatory which is almost 6000 feet increase in elevation frm the foothills. cuz i think they sell FOOD and snacks up there but they overcharge to make $$$ so yeah buy before! lol....ill prolly get food up there too but whatever for the brizoke peeps!

bring cameras!!!! OH..who is bringing the video camera cuz isnt erik making a moooovie! hooray we are gonna be movie stars..

yea, I think for you southwestern people should just go straight to the lodge, because if you would go to tacoma you would backtrack to the mountain, but whatever floats your boat I guess.

for the north/south-eastern people, we can meet up in Yakima, because if you go to tacoma, that would be back tracking as well. for the NE people, you can go all the way to ellensburg, then head down to yakima, then from there we can leave, same goes for the SE people, we can leave from yakima.

heres a map for the path I will take from Yakima to the lodge.

Or... if everyone just wants to meet up at federal way and grub, then we can all head out for the mountain, I wouldnt mind that actually. so, w/e, you guys decide.

just keep in mind when u get this far out in the woods the lodges and lil restarauns are kinda small family owned n shit...so if u get a no for this next one..i would ask them if they know of a more local place that has enough parking to accomodate a large group such as ours! *note- we currently have 14 cars and roughly 19 people showing up, so they say! better not flake people!!!!

To make things easy as far as having an actual ADDRESS that we can meet at, Erik asked me to contact the other lodge our group was referred to -- the Nesqualie Lodge (sp?). The manager was a little reluctant at first but gave the okay under certain conditions... Their check-in time is 3PM+. They have only 32 stalls available for 24 rooms. We are allowed to use the front stalls only, leaving the ones at the back open for guests. Our meeting time is at 12PM and we are only allowed to use the parking lot up to 1:30PM (at the VERY latest). After that, we must be outta there. She warned me that a new set of managers will be coming to take-over for the new season as of March 8th, but she assured me that she would put it in the books and we should be okay. Here's some info people may be interested in:

                    Nesqualie Lodge
                    31609 State Route 706
                    Ashford, WA 98304
                    Ph: 360.569.8804 or 360.569.2435
                    Manager: Marsha Obenchain (S/W 2/18 @ 5:28PM)

                    Room Rates (tax not included):
                    Single Occupancy: $62.50
                    Double Occupancy: $67.50
                    Each additional guest: $10

                    * Contact lodge for more detailed info about rates and property ammenities
                    * Worst case scenario, Marsha said there's an open field b/w the Nesqualie Lodge and Rainier Overland that is often used for events like ours.

why would we need rooms? Do we have to rent something?

anyways, kelly, what do you think about my last post? About meetin either in Yakima, or everyone just meeting up in tacoma

Well, a few of us have been tossing around the idea of possibly staying over for the night to do some exploring, hiking, etc the next day. You have to admit, that's one hell of a drive (especially for someone like me) so might as well make the most of it. And, dunno if you read above but there might be some members coming down from British Columbia. Those rates are reduced seasonal rates because it's not peak season.

About your question, I'm still undecided right now. I've not been down through Yakima before and don't want to get lost. More importantly I'd much rather drive down with the large group. We'll see, of course we'll have to firm things up as the time gets closer.

                        Oh, and....

That's an excellent idea -- especially since both places were so reluctant to help us out! If everyone pitched in a dollar or something and gave them a card we all signed, that would really make us look good. It'd show we have manners, class, respect, etc.

This looks like its going to be a really great get-together. I can't wait.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but there is a toll you have to pay before you go up to the observatory. It think its 10$, i dont know for sure, it could be $5, but just take $10 to be sure.
