    _uck California Smog

    Failed BAR 2x now

Well I'm trying to make my car legit and there are a few things that are holding me back which I don't really think shouldn't.

    1) Accord Blackbox (smog ref couldn't open it and didn't allow me to during the appointment so he put "tampered" to save himself and said come back with the lid off"

    2) Catalytic Converter

I had this replaced 2hrs before the appointment at Midas and obviously it wasn't broken in/hot enough because I failed just by a few points

    3) Lightened flywheel
-This is my major issue right now. Never have I heard of flywheels being a problem with smog but the ref is complaining about it not having a "OEM" timing mark.

    4) USDM ECU Verification

-He took my word it's a USDM ecu but he wanted a verfication or receipt from the place I purchased the ecu that it did in fact come out of a US-car and year. Went to the honda dealer and got my verification order right after I failed.

He wrote on the slip that I need to have my flywheel looked at by a smog technician/repair center and have it statically timed and permanently marked. This really irritates me because my flywheel is already marked by Blacktrax and is in good timing spec. The "smog/repair technicians" want to take my whole damn tranny appart to "mark it" per say but when I called BAR to complain to see if I can get that waived because it's pointless and a waste of money on my side. The BAR said aftermarket flywheels need to be marked and after I explained my situation, they said I could try another Smog referee if I wanted so I did but wound up getting shafted even harder!

Right after working Graves I called BAR and luckily they had an appointment at 1:20pm. for the Sacramento Bar location. It was already 12:18 so i'm like shit! I went 80- buck 20 on I-80 and made it there 3min late and gave my car to the jackass.

This smog ref complained about the following.

    1)Flywheel again

2)He wanted Prelude solenoids and Control box
-I argued that the accord blackbox with solenoids are completely functional and are adapted to the new engine and BAR'D accords I've seen retain this. He argued he's been in the business for 20years and that I need the prelude parts in my engine bay.

3)OEM Intake arm vaccum control box(I deleted this since its pointless dead weight due to the aftermarket intake) He argues that it needs to remain in my engine bay regardless in a pollution controlled vehicle just in I sell my vehicle or decide to go back to stock....COME ON!

4)He complained about my ride height and didn't want to run my car on the dyno because he didn't want to be responsible for damaging equipment or scratching my exhaust or under chassis. He already belted it down etc. and the new techie was like "hey his exhaust is almost touching the dyno ramp. I so wanted to bitch slap her so bad.

Right now i'm at the point of almost giving up so my car is going back to Blacktrax to get a oem flywheel put back in. The lightened flywheel will go back in once I get a LSD I guess. I only have 9 more days till my registration is due....

Getting tired of getting hot smogs and trying to do my car legit this time but I didn't think BAR would be such asses. U would think that if the car passes the sniffer clean then it shouldn't matter how the engine bay looks. Well 3rd times a charm right? Stay tuned for more Cali Smog Nazi news.......

Oh yeah forgot to mention.... what topped off my day was I got a freakin nail in my passenger rear tire when I went up a driveway to stop off to get something to eat. If i messed up that rim driving on it,believe me I would've been on the news for burning down the state capital.

Sounds like you got a bad ref... I went to the one in Modesto and he was cool with the black box (Accord sensors), he actually ASKED me to open the black box and drop the ECU plate so he could see it. My only problem was actually passing the sniffer...

If you want his name, PM me, I'm not sure if he's still there, but I don't see why he wouldn't be.

It was the smog ref at the south sac location. He was really anal guy and started to get hot headed when I told him how other CB7s were hooked up with the accord blackbox. I told him that mechanically the accord box functions the same as the prelude one so what difference does it make? This mofo honestly said to get all the prelude stuff.

Another thing that I found out through blacktrax was that the AEM instruction booklet even says to get rid of the OEM intake controller box since it's not needed anymore and the BAR ref swore that in "pollution controlled vehicles" that needs to remain in there regardless if it's not functioning with the aftermarket intake just in case I were to sell the car or decide to go back to stock..... Yeah if I decide to go back to stock...he honestly said that.

Well I just got my car back from Blacktrax and they were nice enough to squeeze me in there busy hectic schedule to help me pass BAR. They still had my oem flywheel and threw that back in and double checked my timing etc. So right now there shouldn't be any BS comming from BAR now.... I'm going to take my car to the first REF later this week if a appointment is available and hope for the best.

Right now I hate my car. I got so used to having a lightened flywheel and now feel like i'm starting to learn how to drive stick all over again because now i'm under revving my car to the point where it almost dies because it's not as sensative anymore.

Yeah he was looking to pass legit but since hes having trouble, we may have to get other ways of getting it to pass.

BTW Tommy, Tony said you check the timing through the crack pulley. My friend Bryan was looking for the mark on the flywheel and Tony never heard of that before.

I may need to get another crack pulley so I can get my car timed.

Oh and lets go car shopping. GS300 or LS400. Don't want anything too brand new cuz I need to get back to school. Can't work so much you know.
Holla at me when you have time.

u check your timing by the flywheel on cb7's and even on mine. Crank pulley doesn't have timing marks and it's slmost impossible to see the marks if they were on the crank pulley.
