Oohoohoo, I'm looking into the machine shop in town that I'm having relocate the mounting studs on my tranny tomorrow, AMS. Their website says they have engine and chassis dyno "services available". Sweet giggity! They do a lot of high performance work, which I didn't know.

To do the manual swap you really don't need to take it anywhere save some money and tap the holes yourself its super easy there is a thread on this that tells you how to doit

The tranny's an automatic. It was asked, but no one ever answered whether or not the studs need to be moved for an auto. I just got back from picking up an MP1A... is that the one with LSD or is it the MPOA that did? With the exception of a small shaft crossing in the middle, I can see through to the other side (I think I read that was a characteristic of LSD?). I'll do some measuring before I start removing the old tranny to stick in the new. I was wanting to take it to a machine shop for the holes just to be sure they came out as sraight as possible. Their estimated $20-30 for the labor isn't any big deal.

I'm guessing I'll need an H22 half shaft?

*EDIT* - mounting studs are in the perfect place as-is. I need to get a 'lude starter though.

Yeah, I figured out that the starter was compatible. That area's so cluttered that I thought I saw a different shaped casing. Took it off the Accord tranny and test fitted it onto the MP1A. Not a whole lot got done today, we basically just replaced the alternator - the old one was locking up, causing the belt to slip right over it, producing a squeal nearly loud enough to make your ears bleed. My friend that's got an impact gun was busy today, so taking the brake rotor off and therefore being able to get to anything else was halted. A normal socket just kept popping off a few tight bolts. Tomorrow night the tranny should be in, as well as some new wheel bearings I've had sitting around forever.

Well if you got air tools it should be pretty easy you can press the bearings out with bolts not sure of the specs though

So it turns out the friend didn't have an impact. I've tried soaking the bolts in PB Blaster and yanking on them with a breaker bar, but they're not budging. Parts stores don't rent the guns out either. I'm thinking I might just pay a shop to do the work for me before I round off the bolts . Anyone have a rough idea of what a tranny swap might run? With a shop's ridiculous hours, it may be a few days before I have time to call.

Why don't you do the tranny shop then take ur whole knuck assmbly off bring them to a shop and have em press out the old bearings then press in your new ones and get your new rotors put on too can't cost that much if you pull the knuckles of and have parts ready

Is it possible to take the axle out of the knuckle if I turn the wheel full lock (to avoid an immediate alignment... I'm sorta broke now, lol)? I'll see if I can buy a pry bar after work today.

Yeah you don't have to take anything off but the lbj and tie rod end and turn the knuckle you don't have to get an alignment unless you adjust the tie rod most shops will suggest it but it isn't nessicary unless you adjust it and remember when you pull the tranny the torqe converter will have an assload of fluid in it fyi

You shouldn't have to worry about an alignment unless you lower your car or loosen up the lower control arm or tie rod, which you
don't need to do for the swap
