    stock 90 cb7 vx 05 camry v6 kill story

so me and a few friends are heading up to a sushi restaurant and we're all travelling in a straight line, regular 4 lane road, lights are 1-1.5 km apart. i'm second in line (of three cars) and i see a red light with nobody in the right lane so i swoop on over.

look over, (to the camry) my buddy's gf is headbanging to hannah montana or something and hes just loooking at me and smiling. so i decide i'll play. make sure the road north is clear and rev the engine a couple times, really intimidating because theres a huge hole in the muffler and it sounds real mean

so buddy does a brakestand takes off as soon as the light goes green, i take off regularly because im running on 185/70/14 winters. i proceed to mat it, and to my surprise, i start pulling on him HARD. i close the gap so we're neck and neck, slam 2nd and chirp the tires, and at the top of 2nd im a half car ahead of him, slam 3rd and im 1-1.5 cars ahead, then the ride starts to get really bumpy (goddamn high spring rates) . so i let off and coast to the next lights, where im being looked at by two open mouthed faces.

end of story, we talked over dinner and he admitted to doing a brakestand and then mashing it. so im so confused, either the camry has some serious problems or their auto trannies are just total chit. opinions? i dont think i should have won that, but then again it kinda makes sense since im a few hundred pounds lighter. iv raced an older v6 camry (auto) and an acura 3.2 tl (auto) and killed them by like 2-3 lengths. opinions?

Not saying that its not possible but I highly doubt that a stock cb7 could keep up with a 3.2 tl. Maybe the other drivers didnt know that you were racing them. Anythings possible on the road though.

The first Gen TL really wasn't that fast. It only had 200HP.

And neither was the 05 Camry for that matter.

                Agreed, Scott.

Camry's are slow stock, and I'm pretty sure there isn't much aftermarket performance stuff for them. Plus its an automatic, if you have a 5 spd that explains everything.

I have an h22 lude, automatic. I'd probably get raped by a stock JDM F22B w/5 spd trans. Its the simple fact that automatic transmissions, well, straight up suck.

a lot of those camrys are running the 2.4 vvti motor ie the scion motor so there is quite a bit of after market support i would think

EDIT: reading pwns me, he had a v6. but my statement does stand for the other camrys

268HP vs 130HP and 6speed auto vs 4 speed auto, I SURE would hope so...

LOL! The new Camry V6 have the goose though.

We had a 2002 EX V6, and I figured out the best way to launch it. Made a big difference.

Take the TCS off, and brake stand it, gas all the way to the floor, and then let off the brake. You should get just a chirp (although with your wheels, you probably won't), and off you go. Don't preload it too early though, because the TC will get hot I imagine.

AHAHHA damn imagine all that hot vortex flow in the converter, that would just give grief to the tranny cooler. the 3.2 and your ex v6 have the same tranny, no?
