    Good rpm to launch @

for those that have been to the strips, what is a good rpm to lauch from?
i have a 5 sp. and the first time i went to the track (2 mon. ago)
i was nerves and dont really kno what i launched at, but i kno it was high, like 3500+
but after practicing, i notice revving to 2000 i get a good launch.

just want to kno what u guys think, im hitting the track friday night BUDD CREEK for thos in the area...

well launch rpm all depends on your setup..
tires/rim size play a big factory.. i say rim size because the bigger the rim.. the bigger the amount of force needed to move that mofo no?
and tires because if your rolling on stockers you cant really launch high unless u wanna sit there and just waste your tires..
then there is high performance tires that varies in rating....
    then lastly there are slicks..
with most slicks you can launch pretty near your rev limit and get almost no spin.. but will your drivetrain hold up to that kind of abuse.. so anyway.. back to your original question.. it just varies but for the cb7 with the stock motor.. average rpm launch varies from 2,000rpm-4,000rpm.. any higher your asking for traction troubles.. any lower than 2,000rpm your asking for stumbling and stalling.. if you dont know how to work the clutch properly..
best piece of advice i can give you is to keep going back to the track and trying different things..
although you can try launches around your house .. or where ever you feel you wouldnt get the popos called on you.. but.. it doesnt compare to the asphalt of the track.. because of so many runs put on it..
    ok.. ill shut up now..

im tryna decide if i wanna run with 17's or with 14's
first time i hit the trak i had all 4 14's on.
but this time i was thinking about puttin just the 14's in the front.
my 17's are way heavier but they get better traction.
what do u all think. i kno my car is a low 15 second cb7, but i just have a issue with gettin off the line.
due i go with better traction or litter wheels?

well unless your making a decent amount of power as to were u need the added traction of the 17s ... good example is the admin of this mofo..
hes gone with both stockies and his lovely Rated Rs(17s with 450series nittos)
and it didnt make a difference.. but then again.. if ur 17s are real heavy.. dont even bother.. i dont understand why ppl leave the ones on the back...
all that is doing is adding rotational mass.. but like i said.. that is if the 17 is heavier than your stock rim..
        i ordered 16" rota grids..
there not the lightest but they weight in at 16lbs each..
now my stocks lol.. are 13" on my 86 hatchie... i will weight both to see if there is any difference... i might actually be adding weight.. but then again.. im gaining ALOT more traction.. for a fraction amount of weight gain... you have to take alot into consideration..
best piece of advice is to try it both ways..
try it with your 17s.. all 4 on
and try it with your 14s all four on.. if you only have minimal mods like (I.H.E) you should be fine with the stockers.. that is if you havent already made them bald to shit.. lol..
        cough cough steven.. cough cough..

oh and i said that the 16s" would gain more traction compared to the 13s because of the high performance rubber there wrapped in..
so the weight/traction ratio for me is a gain.. have fun experimenting..
          if anything..
          buy some used slicks..
          lol
          hehe
          thats always fun

im a leave all 4 17's on. first time i went i had all 14's on.
but yeah, i have enuff power to make the 17's move.....lol
            im just stuck with this......
off the line the 14's have no traction but after 60feet im str8 because, the 14's r lite.
but with the 17's i can snatch really well, but then after 60feet or whatever that little bit of extra weight might slow me down.

but ill let u all kno how it goes if i still hit the strip friday night, they're calling for rain

Try running the 14's around 15 psi. Just light them up really good before your run and that should be sufficient and you will get the best of both worlds.

Imo. I would launch around 4k, and dump the clutch. Another one I'd try is 4k and slip it a little. It depends on how well the ppl at your track prep. If you haev vtec, I would launch in vtec and dump it.

usually if u launch at vtec and dump it, u will slip out of vtec and cause for a bit of a stumble.. most with vtec like to stay in vtec, which is the smartest thing to do because thats were ur making power.. anyhoot friends of mine usually a lil higher than vtec.. that is if they have the tires to keep from smoking them..
then there is what h22girl said.. some ride up to vtec and dump to get the power of vtec off the line.. like an instant jolt.. but.. that has the reprocution (sp) that u fall out of ur powerband..
so those who dont want to launch at 5,500-6k usually launch around 4k and feather the clutch until they know they wont lose traction and just gun that mother..

                    what he said^^^
it just comes down to u . and how u launch.. everyone has a different way ect.. it just comes down with what ur comfortable doing.. some do the low rpm launch to get going quick.. and others are high rev droppers lol.. that sounds funny "high rev droppers" anyhoot yeh both methods have their ups and downz

hey now... it's the front 2 17" nittos that are bald in the front... not the stockers...

not like that's any better, considering my 17"s are my daily driven tires

just FYI... if you have an auto cb7... i would powerbrake and launch at around 2.5 k or so.... helps get you off the line a bit quicker. won't help the fact that you're auto though

I personally seemed to have a better run if I dumped the clutch. I slip it in my dsm, bc of the awd, but my 60' sucks if I slip it in the accord.

heres what you do bro I know im late and all get that 5-speed up and going get a quaife limited-slip differential that should help a bit. I say launch 2,500 to 3000 if your gonna do at 3k launch but feather the clutch like let it out slowly while accelin that way you dont lose it. Make sure when your racing concentrate and hold the steering wheel straight dont forget to warm up the tires before you make the run to get some good traction. if you feel yourself slippin just let up a little bit .

Give the people with autos some credit. Atleast they are out having fun. A friend of mine hurt his knee in highschool, so he can't drive stick. (his left knee he cant put pressure on it really, and has trouble practicaly walkin). I give him more credit than most. I go over his house he is busting his ass on his car, he seems to always turn down help because he doesn't want to feel helpless. He has an auto with many mods that is fast compared to others with stick at local tracks. I know its all in the way you drive. Stick, autos, I dont ride with car's, I ride with people.
