i practice heel/toe shifting when coming to a stop in a straight line, it's easier that way, cause you don't have to concentrate on turning and you won't crash if you mess up bad. then once you get good at it, apply it to turning.
yeah i double clutch my 5th cause worn synchro. thank god it's my fifth, not like i need it in any kind of agressive application, but it'll grind if i put it in over 55mp/h no matter how many times i pump it. maybe i'll get it fixed, of that that synchro fluid at least first...but it's 5th, it's not all that bad, it'd be a piss off if it were 2nd or 3....wooooo shitty.Last edited by DeathFromAbove; 02-06-2006, 04:08 AM.

I've tried to heel-toe in my car. Unfortunately my foot is too big (size 12) and I can't do it. However, I do double clutch from 3rd to 2nd to go into a corner. All I do is clutch-rev-2nd and I'm good. This happens in a very quick motion, but it's fun to do :-D.Always remember that only you can make your dreams a reality.

IMO double clutching makes the ride smoother. It also saves your transmission some wear.
It is a nice skill to learn, esp if your rough on transmissions. You can also learn how to shift without even using the clutch if you know what your doing.Last edited by Shippo; 02-21-2006, 07:10 PM.Hi, I'm Shippo and I have a problem. I keep buying CB7's.

I mastered heel-toe downshifting with two simple tricks:
-Buy pedal pads that actually WORK!! You need a slightly large gas pedal pad to make it easier.
-I used to do it on highway exit ramps, especially ones that are curved. This would give you more time and space since theyre generally really wide turns.
It takes quit sometime of getting used to matching up your RPM to the vehicle speed. Its second nature once you got it.RICE COOKA!!

personally if ur at a track. all the fancy terms and tricks are just a big hassle when i can power brake past u and have it in the gear that i want to be in coming outta the turn. if u race u should know the track if u dont know it then get to know it because then u will know at which point and time ur car should be in which gear and at the right race line that u wanna be in. screw all that tricky shit. its all about entrance speed, hitting ur apex, cornering speed, and exiting speed. if u know or watch racing then u will know. nascar doesnt count. they never let off the accelerator they just push the brake too. ready some racing books. not drag

Lets see i really dont feel like reading all this from the beginning but here is my take on it. Pointless when upshifting unless your driving a car without synchros or a car with somewhat fucked up synchros. Newer cars dont need to "double clutch" when upshifting. People use it more for downshifting which is also known as heel and toe or heel toe for short. This technique is used to help braking and smooth downshifts so you do not feel jolts. Helps your tranny a lil too but does your clutch no good since it will wear out after a good while if you consistently do it. But easy to do when down shifting, Heres basicall the technique 1. Brake 2. Clutch in 3. Foot still on brake rev motor with your heel a bit 4. DS 5. CLutch out. really not that complicated its just matching the revolutions. You will know if you went to high or too low should be obvious.

As stated many times in this thread, rev matching is the key.....but if you rev match correctly, you don't have to use the clutch pedal at all! Not to take it out of gear or to put in the new gear. Sure it may cause a little wear, but with a good trans and propper lubricating it can be done without causing any damage. I practiced this on several different trans and none of them ever had any damage done from it. You can feel when it wants to go in/out of gear and those are the only times you should be trying to put it in/out of gear. It maybe be kinda freaky the first few times but you get used to it. This would be good it you get VERY EFFICIENT at it, then you can use one foot for brake and one for gas and not have to touch the clutch pedal unless you are trying to change gears when smooth engagement by rev matching isn't possible (like at a dead stop). I would not recommend a nooB to manuals try this until they get a at least a year of GOOD driving with a manual trans (no grinds, no bucking, no stalling, and no miss-shifts or anything like that for at least a year).
