Funny stuff to read. Good octane read, too. Makes thing clearer for me.
I've never run anything but 87 in my CB7. No matter the heat, altitude, etc. Same went for my prelude. Never an issue with the engine internals. Always run great, burn no oil (not even with WOT), good MPG, etc. Just the rare fuel system cleaner. I'm too cheap to pay more if I know I will get nothing for it. :P
And how would higher octane hurt an engine? I can only think if it doesn't burn completely, maybe the rings can become stuck? Not sure on that one.Last edited by Otto; 10-16-2006, 12:17 PM.Opal Metallic Green '92 LX 2dr manual, 181k miles, '94 prelude VTEC wheels for summer (steelies with snow tires for winter), Omni-power struts/springs, and other junk

I haven't ever experienced a situation where it hurt the engine. I have seen scenarios where it didn't run as well though.

the only thing i know is my accord pulls better on higher octane.
im going to pick up my a6 manifold soon, and hopefully polish it up. i dont know about hitting the track this year, maybe if i get a number to get in, ill go. as far as track talk, how does it work?? i mean the first one to cross the line, wins. do you wait for the green light to hit, and the small yellow ones to go out. please educate me on this, so i get the right time.miss my turbo cb7
moved onto volvos. dont know how that happened, just did

sucks guys, tracks closed.
have to wait until spring. well ill have the ex coupe by then hopefully, and also dropping some nice numbers. so the sedan wont prove the octance, but the coupe will. case closed until spring of '07.miss my turbo cb7

You can still run at the track...SHould be open every friday saturday a certain time unless there is an event there....Or most of the ones I know of. Yellow is stage then the tree has yellow lights then when it goes to green you go. If you go before green you red lit. AFter the two stage lights light up be sure to hold your launch rpm since people dont like to wait.

is it easy to burn your tires on auto? i think i could hold it at 2k and drop in into 1st on auto.
the track near by has schedules. friday nights are scheduled for street racing. Sept 29 was the last street racing night. all the rest events are for drag cars.miss my turbo cb7

This is called doing a neutral drop. These are bad. These will destroy your transmission while netting NO performance gain.
The safest way to launch an auto is to power brake it. Your auto already knows the best points to shift, unless you have done a lot of modifications, so just put it in D4 and leave it.
To powerbrake in 3 easy steps:
1) hold the brake with your left foot
2) Press the gas with your right foot. This loads the transmission. Most people use about 1/2 throttle, on my Accord, full throttle seems to work best.
3) When time to launch simply release the brake, go full throttle if you haven't all ready, and you are done until the end of the track.

wont u crack the rotor, caliper, or both? putting so much load on the tranny or brakes wont damage anything?
also, do u mash the throttle WHILE holding the brake, yea could u explain that"You don't have to be a Phi Beta Kappa to know not to strip-search a girl who is accused of stealing change,"
I did gagoogity that girl. I gashmoigitied her gaflavity with my googis. And I am sorry.

Your engine doesn't have nearly enough torque to break things. So in answer to your question, NO it won't hurt anything.
I live at 5,000 feet so typically, it will chirp and then accelerate. If I am sea level, my car will usually lay a few feet of stripe and then hook up.
You will just have to experiment with part/full throttle and see what happens and which you like better.
As far as the car creeping, I have never had that problem, if it does, you just need to push the brake harder.
The only potential for damage is that you are loading the torque converter up without the car moving. This will generate more heat in the converter, but unless you do it for long periods of time, without moving it isn't going to generate enough to worry about.
