The Acclude was beaten by a CRX!

So my friend at work has a CRX with a 99 Civic motor in it. He didn't tell me what model it was, just that it came from a Civic. Well we had talked about racing to see who was faster and so tonight, we finally got together. I really wish we had a light or someone to flag us down. I launched at 4k rpms and spun the tires all the way through 1st, when I shifted to 2nd I was about a quarter or a car behind him. I kept with him not losing any more space until the end of the race. My horrible reaction time and shitty launch cost me $20. But it was all fun, and a learning experience. Afterwards he gave me a spin in his CRX. He has a button hooked up to engage VTEC whenever he wants, and he launches like a pro. When VTEC engages in my Acclude, it hits pretty smooth. In his CRX, his SOHC civic motor hits HARD. The whole car jerks when he engages VTEC.

He didn't have nitrous, I've seen his engine bay and it's really ghetto.

im assuming by your title, you have a h22? if so, and you lost to a singlecam... so sad. and if you know how to drive, you shouldnt be spinning and shifting into 2nd. learn to feather the gas.

Looking back on it, I should've launched at 2k. I hardly race anyone.

Learn how to launch as soon as you see the hands about to fling down remain calm and launch at 3k as soon as you feel the hook floor it if you dont feather it until you do. Get some better tires and a quaife lsd and you pwn for sure like me. Then after that instant pull people will accuse you of runnin nitrous and shooting fireballs out of your exhaust and shit like that just remember practice makes perfect just make sure your in a secluded area away from traffic and cops.

Lol this thread reminds me of a friends rex. Well when he gets on it, and he engages vtec(4.5-5krpms) the wheels actually start spinning out. Its like when he had his turbo installed, but hes N/A now. Vtec kicks hard as fuck, and he jus spins the tires up to about 6.6-6.8k rpm's and then shifts at about 7k.

SOHC VTEC is weaksauce... Plus, ideally VTEC should be a smooth transition. A hard hit doesn't benefit anything, aside from the enjoyment of the feeling of instant power...
Race cars that retain the low-RPM lobes usually have the car tuned so that you can't tell when the lobes change.
