    NA/FWD > Boost/AWD

ok well first off, i really hope this guy wasnt trying... cause its a sad car if he was.

i was on my way to my friends house, cruising down capital exp.(for all you san jo peeps). for those who dont know, its a 45mph limit. i rolled up next to a silver sti and i was just lookin over, inadvertently pacing him... just checkin it out, they do look nice ya know. and i notice him start to speed up, like he knew i was there... so i give it a little gas, still in 5th and accelerate to keep up with him.

after passing eastridge mall, we were doing about 70(on a 45 remind you)... and he downshifts, so i do to. without even thinking about it, we go ripping down capital... a car is coming up in front of him, he swerves out a lane and keeps going... still we're neck and neck. redlining 3rd, pound into 4th... then we catch up to alot of traffic and slow down real quickly. race over...

now i dont know if he was full on trying, but i would assume he was. by the time we let off, we were doing about 115 in a 45. i just didnt think i would be able to keep up with an sti. i know alot of their quickness comes from off the line... so maybe theyre not the most impressive things while in motion. but if i was in his shoes, i would have pulled on an accord if i could have... nobody likes to be embarassed.

true. they shine when it comes to of the line racing. AWD cars are fast of the line but once they hit a certain speed they just stop accelerating while NA FWD can keep on going. Good race bro!

Yeah, I've hung with an STi myself... a sliver one too!

It's possible it was an STi'd out WRX as well... I know the superficial modifications are popular things to do to a regular WRX. Kinda like doing an ITR conversion on a low end teg

good race...funny how a few months ago...when i posted my wife's sti race, it was UNBELIEVABLE to many, some believers, but for the most part haters...no this guy posts up and it's nothing buy "possibles".

oh well, like i said, good race.

that is true. but from my pov, thats just pathetic. how is someone gonna rep for a topmodel car when they really have a "dx". either way, i hope he went home a cried, cause he spent a grip on his car, just to get paced by a 14 year old family car. ha ha and ha.

btw there losimus, what did your wife have in her car. i might have read that thread but i dont remember.

los's car that his wife was driving is more modified than yours...

There are people on here that seem to think that just because a car is 300hp and $35,000, that it must be better than anything we can do. Hell, if 2point6 can beat Z06s in a 250whp Accord, a 180something Accord should be able to at least hang with a 300hp "choked at the top end" STi! Some people think horsepower is everything...

After the AWD drivetrain losses, plus the added weight of the STi over the CB7... don't you think it's a lot closer match than it first seems? Figure, we suffer from about a 15% drivetrain loss... the AWD setup must be over 20%. And that car weighs about 3200lbs... Stock STi 1/4 times are supposed to be anywhere from 13.0 to 13.8... But CB7s with stock H22s are supposed to run about 14.8... With some mods on the H22, some weight reduction on the CB7, and a better driver, it's possible to win even off the line. At high speeds, the CB7 has the advantage.

Yeah, what deev said. I still don't get how a car the size of a Corolla can weigh as much as a Camry...then I remember it has a transfer box, an extra diff, a turbo, piping, an intercooler, a big ass wing, chassis reinforcements...so yea I can imagine a, H22 CB pulling on one. A race from a roll is an STI/EVO owner's worst nightmare...

Exactly. Those cars were made to be rally cars... decent handling for AWD machines, lots of stick to the ground power, but no need for top end. Who can go full throttle in the last 2 gears in a rally race? In the US, they're decent drag cars, but those weight and drivetrain issues require some modification to overcome.

And those 13 second times are definitely with good drivers. I read that a stock one pulled 12.9 once... I should be running at least high 14s with my car, and I have yet to break out of the 15s... Shows what a bad driver can do to an otherwise fast car!

I can only imagine what a 12.9 run would do to the drivetrain...nothing nice I imagine. I think the EVO's are lighter overall though, which is good...but at the end of the day, all-motor VTEC Hondas are what do it for me.

Evos are about the same weight as STis... and the older DSMs aren't much lighter either... That AWD system isn't light!

I believe how you might of hung with an Sti. I drive them at work, unbeleivably quick start. However, like you guys mentioned their top speed is nothing to brag about. I'll never forget how a PT Cruiser Turbo was keeping up with me and mine you I had a 02 WRX!! I was like WTF?? That being said, I wasn't happy with my WRX. The Sti doesn't lag like the WRX. Good race though....he should feel dumb as hell after spending 30k on his car. For what? I don't know.

See the thing is with those cars not alot of people mod them becasue they spent most of the money trying to buy it or are still paying for it. Not only that they are afraid of voiding the warrantee aswell . The other is when they mod it they cannot seem to do alot most of their launches suck unless you launce real high which can in the end bust that tranny then back to he dealer ,dealer inturn revokes warrantee person who bought it sells the car. I loves to rape the evos and stis on the highway .
