    93 ex cb7 vs 89 Mazda rx-7 turbo

hahaha..you guys already know the outcome of this race..but ill go into detail...few nights ago....
i was pulling out of kfc drivethru and i see this orange old school rx-7 flashin his hazards...like...ill race anyone who wants to fuck with me...i like to push my 93 accord which only performance is a AEM v1 CAI and i also have an automatic ..... so he is flashing his hazards..so i buzz past him like going 70 and he is blocked off by some other traffic...i turn on my hazards cuz i love to get slow ass civics to race me that way..plus i know it pisses people off....i get a kick when i flash my hazards and some civic comes up and buzzes past me...hehe....and i let them go..well anyways i look in the rear view..and see he is trapped by some grandmas or some blonde chicks yapping on their cell phone..you know..slow ass drivers ...so im getting a kick outta seeing this guy wanna race but he is trapped... so i keep checking the rear view to see where this guy is at and finally he pulls up to the side of me.... i immediately shift down to 3rd in my automatic... i love the sound of the CAI when i shift to third...and give it some gas....he then starts passing me...and gets in front of me by like 5 cars.....his dual exhaust then starts popping and scared the shit out me...but i was like that is bad ass...watching the yellow flames in his exhaust pop.........so i turn around cuz i pass my house...and he follows.....so i give shift down to 3rd and haul ass....CAI is screaming....then i see this guy do a u turn and drift his car for a second ..then aligns up..and comes racing beside me...passing me...i start hitting redline and then shift to fourth....he passes me again....and again the pops from his gas in his exhuast burning......he pulls off into a gas station...and my k-band on my radar detector goes off...but i figure its just circle k's giving off some spectrum ...i pull off behind him..and give a salute..but i guess he thinks he wants me to have him follow me.........i get a head start out..but now we are on single road ..and a gas guzzlin SUV is ahead of me.......i shift down to third and pass this guy...CAI is screaming.....the rx-7 pull in the left lane and he passes me again...before i shift to 4th..haha.....i know there is a sharp curve coming up so im like this guy is gonna flip his shit..but he executed the turn nice and was back in front of me...he then pulls of to his apartments...i honk my horn and show some respect......his rx-7 was bad ass..it reminded me of my black rx-7 on GT3 that i souped up to win mad races...it was a good race...and makes me long for an h22 with a turbo...and auto to manual swap...im gonna do it so the next time im gonna wax this guy....i did some research and his turbo for that year is about 180 hp ..give maybe about 20 to that...i figure an h22 with a turbo might yeild about 230.....well it was a good race ..the rx-7 is a bad car...ill race anything but wait till i get my vtec and turbo....ill be back!!!!!

Nice race man Sometimes it's fun to pick on the fast cars just to watch em go!

And if you want to go H22, plan on a LOT of money to go turbo... Boosting a stock H22 is a bad idea.

Well allmotor or turbo or both. I went all three ways with this project . First i went with just a stock h22 with intake and exhaust only. But now im fully built with the h22 and i love it. Youd be surprised of how many people i get at with my ride .

Now that I've seen the boosted H22, Mike... I want to see it running right! Then I want to see it running at the track...

Basically... a stock H22 will cost you roughly $2000 for a full swap... some places charge more, some less... but $2000 is a nice round number.

It would cost $5000-$7000 to PROPERLY build your motor for turbo (sleeving, forged internals, fuel system, engine management, axles, clutch... hardening the transmission internals would be a good idea as well). Then you have the cost of the turbo system itself, which shouldn't be a ghetto-rigged system on such a good engine! So, that's another $2000 or more... So I would estimate about $10,000 for a properly built turbo motor... and that's NOT including dyno tuning time, which is HIGHLY recommended!

NA, done to make real power (2point6's 12 second runs are what I'm referencing) will cost you nearly the same, possibly more. You would still need the same internal work, plus extensive headwork. Then you have all the bolt-on pieces (which must be high quality... an Ebay header making 5whp opposed to an SMSP header making 20whp is a big deal... and a price difference of at least $700) The engine management situation remains the same. Again, this would cost $10,000 or more to complete. This is the route I eventually hope to take.

Then there is the "normal" H22 route... simple, affordable bolt-on mods. 200-220 at the wheels is possible, depending on how far you take it. I like this because you can work your way into a fully build NA motor. A turbo build sucks ass without the turbo!

So, that's my take on everything. Probably more than necessary, but I needed to spout off about something!

the 2nd gen rx7s are kind of a lost soul in the tuner world. there are two different turbo engines, one has 200hp which is a series 4 and the other has 220hp and 200 foot pounds which is a series 5. stock they only run 15.00.hks claims that if you put on they're y pipe back exhaust you gain 15% more power to the wheels. which is roughly 30hp. so a lightly tuned (intake and exhaust) rx7 with removed emissions control should run mid to low 13's. just some food for thought.

They're great little cars, but they have issues with their transmissions (very fragile) and there are major heat issues with the Wankel design. A good deal of modification has to be done to make them reliable, especially when pushing more power than stock.

I know a racing team that has that motor in a Corolla... well, they have one in the Corolla, and one in the back of their van for when the one in the car blows up! The car runs 9s or something, but supposedly they blow a motor almost every time out.

Still, RWD, rotary, turbo... sleek looks... The RX-7 is really the only Mazda I would ever care to own! Definitely a toy though...

if you get one get a 2nd engine. rebuilt it and bore out the apex from 2mm to 3mm, which will help with the life of the engine. that is the biggest reaon they stopped selling the 3rd gen rx7. check turbo manifolds before purchasing one, also do a FMI, and get a fat radiator like 3 inches. that should go ahead and fix a majority of the heating problems with it. oh yeah and replace the pilot bearing. (they go out alot)
