Ever wonder why the DOHC VTEC honda motors run so good and are soo fast for just all motor 4 bangers? Because they can produce high power at high rpm consistently. they have good powerband. The 1.8t will build power sooner, but it also dies off way quicker, while the honda is still in the meat of the band going all the way to 8K.
