Not really too surprising considering a 350 from that era would have been around 200HP SAE net in that timeframe. Considering the weight of the car, it is probably a fairly healthy engine.

So true...Actually it was about 170whp give or take a few which is the base 2bbl which aint much to talk about neither was the 4bbl ss 350.You could get the SS trim, but it really was not performance based at all.This was all due to much much lower compression for emissions,fuel an all that jazz.Really after 1970 the true V8 muscle disappeared until the 80's where the big 3 used different approaches.So in the chevelles defense 170whp mated with a 3600lb chassi=SLOW.Now if the original buyer snuck in a Lt1 back then the OP would have been in a world of hurt!, but like the rest after 70 the power was lowered, but still alot more than the base 350's in that time.My step dads got an ol 70 monte with a worked LT1 would be nasty if he'd ever get it done.
