    First time AutoX..

Let me tell you I had a great time. I went with a friend of mine who's done it a few times and actually has a pretty impressive (and expensive) setup for AutoX.

My car rode exactly as it is in my "Member's Ride" thread and I have no intentions of converting my car into a super stiff suspension AutoX machine, besides in my class Street Modified I have little to no chance of being a top contender but I will make improvements such as sway bars, maybe a different set of wheels and tires for autoX, and etc.

I really pushed my car and had a great time. I was also very impressed (as where others) with my cars performance on the track. My driving was smooth and the only real thing that needed obvious improvement was my tires.

I'm glad I went, I really got to know my car better and now can begin to seriously improve the way it handles and improve my skills. In other words, I'm hooked.

The next even is in early Janurary in Ft. Myers FL. If you guys have never done it and are in the area you should really go, it's awesome.

Here's some pix my girlfriend took:

Hey, you gonna come over here for that event? I'll be there. Your talking about the one at buckingham airfield right? It'll be my first time autocrossing this car, and down here in florida.. but i cant wait, and its almost here.

BTW, im guessin your talking about that one, its the 8th and 9th (8th is a practice and tuning day, 9th is the actual autocross.)

Lookin forward to see ya there.

What kind of tires would u be moving onto busted? I'm considering the azenis for all road use meaning DD, drag, and autox.

The azenis wouldnt be a good tire for running down here in Florida. The tires suck in rain, especially when you have less than 50% of the tread left. When I get a little more involved in the autocross, im prolly going to get a dedicated wheel/tire combo just for the track. Not sure on wheels yet, but i wanna fit a 215 or 225 on it.

i understand that they aren't great in rain but I'm already really careful in the rain and usually go 5-10mph below the speed limit. I'd be using slicks for the drag strip also and i'd still have the tires that are currently on my car for bad weather use laying around...damn thats a lot of tires

well i guess if you are reallly careful in the rain they shouldnt be too bad. Its when you wanna do "spirited driving" is when you get into trouble. But they lose grip on standing water like whoa.

The other bad thing is the treadwear is quite quick, One person i knew got ~3000 DD/track miles which i guess aint bad, that was on an AE86. Someone else w/a subie had quite a bit more though.

Gulfcoastautocrossers is the event I'm talking about in Jenurary. Depending if I take the trailer, truck, and etc. will determine if I spend the night in Ft. Myers or commute back in forth.

The Azenis Sport (which I assume is the tire yo uare speaking of) is an excellent AutoX tire. However for Drag racing it's not suited aswell as a say a BF G-force T/A DR. But it can still do the job. They where rather quickly, I think they are rated as 200 treadwear but don't last even that long. The Azenis Sport is also a discontinued tire now. The tire to replace it is the Azenis Sport 2 however it's not out yet.

I'm looking at several different wheel/tire combos right now. I'm not going to be jumping on anything immediately unless it's a rediculously great deal. I'm still unsure if I'm converting to 5-Lug so I'm just going to sit tight and research and make a decission with time.

For now I'll just be dropping about 50psi into my Ziex 512's to hold the sidewalls up while I autoX. That was basically my main problem, the side walls would fold over and I'd end up runing on them rather then my thread, kinda feels like slipping on a roller skate.

What I am going to do now is the S/T sway bar kit. Now I just have to find a set.... cheap.

Nice, would like to have some more people in cb7's reppin. I havent been there before, but im pretty sure that there are quite a few cars that go. Lemme know if you have any idea or guesses at when i could try and get that dyno/chipped ecu done(PM'ed ya about it), or i guess we could talk when you are over here for that event.

i've had no problems with the azenis in the rain what so ever...as long as theirs tread you'll be fine (just like any other tire)..azenis sucking in the rain is just a myth

even though it will be replaced you can still easily get a set still..but i'd suggest waiting for the new sizes for the 615's

The RT-215 ( Azenis Sport) is a dry weather weather tire. It's compounds are engineered to adhere to dry pavement at tempertures around 215 degrees. It proforms poorly in wet weather. It's not a myth, just a fact. It's not intended for that use so it wasn't engineered that way. You can't have an ultra performance dry weather tire preform great in the rain aswell one will have to be sacrificed.

You can still purchase complete sets of the RT-215 however the prices have jumped considerably. For example my cost on 205/50/15's has jumped over $10 in just under 6 months from my Falken distributor. The fact that the tire isn't being produced anymore along with the demand for the tire and unsure release of the RT-615 has really hiked the price.

All I know is that the RT-615 better deliver on all the hype because it has a hell of a reputation to up-hold and improve on.

a tire's performance in wet weather has very little or nothing to the compound it is consisted of...as long as it's tread design can expel water then it will make a good rain tire...you are the first person i heard to have complaints with the azenis in the wet but everyone has their own preferences i guess

A tires material has as much to do with it's perfomance when wet aswell as it's tread design. And I don't have any complaints about the tires performance in wet weather... I actually didn't even bring it up I was just offering some insight.
