Originally posted by bagoon316you have it backwards. the bov on a wrx/sti is called a bypass valve. it doesnt release into the atmosphere. if it did it would be okay to put a bov on a wrx/sti. the bypass valve in a wrx/sti releases the air back into the intake before the compressor housing after the maf reading. it is most certainly ok to run a bov on a tuned wrx/sti, and i think it is ok to run on a stock wrx/sti as it only runs rich for a split second. plus your comparing the richness in between a gear shift compared to what the all ready sub 10 to even high 9's afr on a stock map at wot for a wrx. thats why the wrx/sti all ready have so much potential out of the box because they are so safely tuned from factory its almost impossible to fawk them up. you also cant put a mbc on a stock wrx/sti as they have boost/fuel cut at 18psi.
to the op, good race, but he either wasnt racing or cant drive worth a damn.
I've read 32904832094 threads on NASIOC on why you can't run one.
BOV on a WRX info
It's the reason I bought the SPT intake. It allows me to hear my BPV much clearer than with the stock snorkus setup. I have no desire to run a BOV on it.
EDIT: My post was in reference to why someone who puts a BOV on a stock WRX needs their head examined.
EDIT 2:
Safely tuned? Apparently you haven't heard about the stock tune on the 07 STi. To get any serious power out of a WRX/STi the first thing you really should do is get a downpipe and a tune via a Tactix cable and open source or a pro-tune via a Cobb AP. A catback on one of those cars adds a neglible amount of power, and any sort of turboback without engine management is asking for trouble.
Last I checked my car will only boost to 14.5 psi in stock form. If I want to up the boost I have to tune via one of the methods above.Last edited by AccordWarrior; 04-02-2008, 07:42 PM.

not to thread jack but i think i get it now. so what the bypass valve does is redirect air into the pipe that the turbo sucks air through right? just tring to get a mental image in my head. correct me if i'm wrong. also, the reason why the wrx shouldnt use a bov is because they use a MAF sensor right?90 EX DUMPED!!!

You're going to run rich anytime you blowoff, not just during gear changes. You don't just blow off durning shifts. You cannot completely tune out the richness of it causes, and unless you're running a high HP setup, it's not worth it to put it on the car. Eventually it will eat your cats and just cause a host of other issues.

i all ready know when you blow off at any time it runs rich and ruins cats/mufflers. i guess since i am running a 4" "whale" penis d/p and 3" exhaust with no resonators/cats, ill be ok with my bov. i too have read the billions of posts on the nazis stating not to run a bov on a STOCK TUNE, it is perfectly fine to run one on a tune.
you cant run the aem intake because you will throw a cel, the best thing to do instead of spending 200 bux on the 3" piece of pipe through subaru you just bought, is to just gut the intake box. thats all over nasioc as well.
i have been to nasioc, i have the same s/n, i have read everything about the stock ecu and reflash system. i am also a member at enginuity/romraider, and i-club. i have done my research.Last edited by bagoon316; 04-03-2008, 08:50 AM.

The Cobb OTS maps do run rich, I won't deny that from all the information I've read. I'd never run a Stage 2 OTS map for long, just long enough to get it tuned. Sure opensource is cheaper, but the new AP2 is a heck of a piece. I've seen a lot of tuners get some amazing power with them. I also like the ability to load maps like the anti-theft and the valet mode.
I don't know where you're getting your information from, but a stock WRX boost level is not 14.5 psi. A stock STi is 14.5 psi with a VF39. A stock WRX should be ~13.5 on a TD04.
Either way it's a moot point. If a WRX with a BOV is having trouble running from an Accord, then it shouldn't be running a BOV.

i think any of the spt products wont void warranty. also most subaru dealerships will work with people if they have exhaust, only if its from a real/legit manufacturer. the good thing though about the spt intake is that it wont throw the cel. i guess its designed so that the airflow wont hurt the maf sensor readings.
open source can do everything that the cobb unit can do. and opensource is supposed to be more advanced...working on a 2 step system which the v2 doesnt offer. also to get the v2 tuned you have to take it to an authorized cobb "dealer" or shop, to get it protuned. so you just paid almost 700 for the v2 unit just to d/l a stage2 map, and now have to pay another roughly 300 to get it protuned since they have the software. too pricey for me, and i think its technology is still the same as the opensource.
anyways, dont want to keep threadjacking, to the op, get your h22 and run a stockish rex from a role, you should hold your own pretty well. you might be surprised what a 200hp engine with some bolt ons can do against a stock boosted car. good luck bro.
i cant remember what year your subie was accordwarrior, i think saw pics somewhere on here. my06/07?
