for all you people that knock on the b16, have you even driven a car with the motor or any of the other b-series vtec motors? if you have, compare them to another motor in its class and its time and age.
sure it wont catch up to a stock srt4, its an N/A 1.6 litre motor for crying out loud, but given a b16 with the same amount of boost and you'll say different.
I driven every B series save the Type R in just about every chassis it will fit in. I OWN a B series powered car.
Top end only matters in a race, you are correct, but like most spec sheet bench racers, you have forgotten the real world, which is gearing. A B16 only makes peak power and torque for about 1,000 RPMs, and thus must be kept in that narrow little range. It pulls very well in its power range, but until you get there, it leaves a lot to be desired. Unfortunately, there is only so much you can do with 111 ft/lb, a 1,000 RPM powerband, and 5 gears.
As far as introducing boost to a B series, that is outside the scope of this discussion.
Also, nobody in here has said that the B series is a complete turd. We have simply pointed out its limitations, which are in fact quite real. I agree, they are fun as hell to wrap out. But unless they are built, they aren't that impressive. Fun, but not fast.

i mentioned boost because someone mentioned how a race ended comparing the b16 vs a stock srt4 which you know comes boosted from the factory and pushes a good amount of psi in stock form.
as far as someone saying the b16 being a complete turd, maybe you're right but a lot of people here are talkin trash about the motor saying how they aren't impressed and all that. thats fine with me but i just think they never gave the b16 a chance. though it may not be the best motor out there, it still deserves a little repect for its size and its age.90 EX DUMPED!!!

considering that the tc is 161 hp @ 5700 rpm and 164lb tq @ 4000
those numbers ARE NOT impressive for near 3000 lb car.
the automatics are jokes...my girl ones one and man i hated every bit of pull it tried to do.
i still yet have to drive a tc that would change my mind. maybe its cause im biased....most tc drivers ive dealt with tried to race me. i also hate their interior and gauges the most.

If the driver did talk crap, then he probably is a crappy driver and his motor is shot to boot. Its like owequitit said 90% of swapped cars are talked up piles of crap. Its mainly hondas too, considering they are one of the cheapest and easiest cars to swap/modify.
The b16b type-r is quite a fine peice of engineering for a stock motor, all the other b16's are just bleh. Most people swap em then beat the crap out of them, shifting while is bouncing off the rev limiter. I can believe the b16 getting walked on by the tC. Lots of honda people dont take care of there shit anymoreOriginally posted by deevergote..It's not cheap to build a fast CB7, especially NA. However, if you're willing to put the money into the car, it's well worth it in the end. There ARE faster cars out there, but some people, like me, want THIS particular car to be fast!...
