Well is it possible to replace the tranny without a lift or tranny jack?

eh i just finished putting an Ody trans back together. The reason for the huge failure in those transmissions is that theres a huge spring that acts on the clutch pack of the trans. Constant pressure and fluctuation of that spring causes the clutch pack to jam together and bind up..wears out the clutch mating surfaces and overheats because of the lack of lubrication within the transmission.

Most dealers now just replace them with reman units from the factory.

I will NEVER take one apart AGAIN. They have to at least weigh 150 lbs each and there are so many parts to keep track of.

If you get a reman, buy one from Honda at least then you will know it was straight from the factory.

Well, considering the 4 cylinder tranny doesn't work, what else would you suggest?

Its a shame that these things are doomed to such failure. I imagine there probably isnt much of a warranty on the reman'd trannies either. And paying $1700 for a new tranny every 50k is gonna get old.

OEM Honda remans come with a factory warranty attached, if installed by a dealer. So at the very least, you get a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty out of it, but I would bet you would convince them into issuing the extended warranty that they gave to all auto tranny equipped cars of this generation.

Also, I do have to clarify that in over 70K we never had a hiccup with ours, but I changed the fluid frequently.

No no lol. Some guy was saying the only thing keeping him from getting a CG was the transmission problem. I said get a manual. he said the v6's dont come in manuals. I said who needs a v6 get a 4 cylinder.

ive replaced 2 of the autos in a one month time period. they are NOT fun.
1 was replaced with a reman from a local tranny shop, that offers a 100,000 mile warranty.
and the other, was straight out of the junk yard.
funny the one with the warranty came back because of slipping and shifting problems. twice.
