I'd go with the pathfinder. I like the look a lil better. As for the Toyota. I dont know from experience, but I've heard nothing but good things about 22Rs.

I was thinking of avoiding the v-6 if I were to go with the 4runner just cuz when researching last night I was learning of the head gasket issues....but I guess the 22R is pretty strong....plus I figure that the v-6 would get way worse gas mileage lol
I really havent been able to find much on the pathfinder....though I havent really searched that much since my main interest is in the 4runner.
Im looking forward to having a 4wd vehicle lol....My cb gets stuck everytime it snows and its not fun having to dig it out (did it this morning....again).
Underpowered will not be a big factor for me....since this will jsut be a go to work then come home from work car....Im gonna be buying a skyline GTR that will more than make up for the underpowered factor lol
The 4cyl was much more common on the earlier models as well. The nicer models with the alloys, etc had the V-6 while the less contented models came with the 4cyl.
Personally I think the 1st gen is a whole lot cooler, but the 2nd gen is much more practical as a people mover. I want a 1st gen because of the pop roof.

Plus I just found an 88 4 cylinder 4Runner for sale for 3000....Its a 5-spd with just 205000 Km (not miles) on it....so it sounds like its exactly what im looking for.

I've worked on 4Runners...they are rittled with problems. Engines and trannies...JUST FINE!!!...but the electronics and components...window motors...power antenna...etc etc...a lot of interior stuff...
I wouldn't own one, and I love toyota
I can't speak to the nissan..never touched one. (except to look for a key I dropped under one)
consumer reports is your best friend here (not digest...reports)____

I should add...
I cannot speak to the new models past 03 though...as of 2006 I stopped working on yota's and went back to school. (the 04 and up weren't out long enough to see problems...the o3's weren't out long enough really either)
most of the issues seemed to come from the 2000 body style and down.____

I dont think Im gonna be picking up either of these anyways....The ones Ive found that seem to be in decent shape are too expensive for me....and the ones that I can afford Im afraid to buy lol....Right now im looking at a 2000 protege....low miles so I hope itll last me long enough to save some money to buy the car ive always wanted
