Hate to break it to ya, but they all can handle over 600rwhp on the stock block. The only advantage the JZ's have over the 7M is headflow, but thats in before porting. So, why would you pay money for a smaller engine?
a K series 4 cylinder can make 400whp on a stock block.......but how reliable is it going to be?
a 1JZ is a race bred motor, they can hold the power 'reliably'

Are we talking stock block with internals? If its stock internal 1jz I have seen max is 600hp but thats pushing it. The 2jz is around 800hp as I recall. Stock block itself is strong so you pair it with a good set of internals you will be able to push that 1000hp threshold reliably. The 1jz motor is nice compared to the 7m series motors. Most notable the HG but that can be fixed with some minor things. I will admit the 7m is torquey but thats all. It also depends on what you plan to use the motor for. I prefer track usage with turns so I want something that can hover high rpm reliably I dont think the 7m would like sticking around 6500+rpm for extended periods of time but yea at the end it depends on what your looking for.
and actually 1JZ's can handle just as much power as 2JZ's........infact, 1JZ's are built to be more robust from factory....but they do lack in displacement which obviously with shorter stroke, allows them to rev much higher.

To each his own. I see no point in slapping in an engine with less displacement and move revving power in a heavy car. That just me tho. I like torque, no need to short yourself some torque.

Trust me........the 1JZ isn't lacking any torque...especially if you are using a twin turbo system with the small ceramic snails that came on them stock.
280 lbs. of TQ @ 2400 rpm (stock) isn't exactly lacking any torque....and that figure just goes up from there.
Plus the 1JZ's actually came in the Mk3's in Japan.......so if anything......You would be swapping in the correct engine into an already heavy car.

They also had the 7m japan which was called the A spec or something like that. Most of them had the 1jz though.

Japan have laws the govern output per liter. They cut down the size of the engine to make the car more affordable because its in a lower tier of taxes.
And after you remove the crappy sequential turbo system, the torque falls behind drastically. And the 280lb-ft and up is pure . I am even speculating that the rpms are off too. That sucker doesn't make substantial power until at the very least 3k and from there its generally a flat curve.
in my honest opinion, there's nothing I can't do with the 7mgte that I could with a 1jz/2jz dollar for dollar. to me, the 1jz/2jz are a jdm bling factor and is way over priced.

Ok...?
The fact still remains.......if the 7ME is such a great engine, then why was it replaced? Why was the 1JZ Mk3 Supra the most Powerful Supra of it's Era....when the 7Me was available?
and now you're telling me that if you increase boost pressure on already tiny turbos, you wont increase torque?!?!?!?!?!
so the Mazdaspeed 3 puts out a stout 280 lbs. of Torque @ 3000rpm a single turbo and 2.3 liters of displacement........yet a 2.5 Inline 6 cant put out 280 lbs. of torque @ 2300 rpm with two very small turbos?!?!
ok man........whatever you say

The 1jzgte supposedly dunno if its true didnt have a sequential setup from my readings. It was a true dual setup from what i have heard. The 2jzgte on the other hand is a diff story. I like the 1jzgte itis just that I dont have the money and time to work on a 7mgte since I will probably let my lil bro drive it to school when I am not in town. Reliability is a big issue with the 7m. Yes the motor is torquey I am not gonna argue about that. I think killercam was talking about stock spec with no raise in boost. But both sides would be a never ending arguement. Its just like whats better there are people that like the 7mgte, 1jzgte, 2jzgte, 1uzfe for some others and so on. It depends on the person, what they can afford, and their overall goals for a motor overall.

To be fair here the MZR 4 is a couple of decades ahead in technology. I'm also sure the 7M will put out more power on stock internals. Overall I think the 7M can be more reliable. Doesn't have FORD fingerprints all over it.
The HG issues is a design flaw. Other than that, the 7M is actually very reliable. A guy I talk to at work has one. He rebuilt his motor, and upgraded the turbo. Its a nice red MK3. Not in as good of condition as say LIL Dcb7's but mechanically its top. SN2BH22(kenny) can vouch for it. We both saw it with the same set up 7 years ago at a meet.

Not really, but ok....
The only difference I can see between the 1JZ and the MZR is direct injection, which allows for boosted engines to run higher compression.
