I've driven a nicely modded SRT4. With the torque steer and traction issues, the car is useless in first gear. It's impossible to get a good launch in that car.
With that being said, the SRT4, even in stock form is far from slow. An H22A equipped CB7 can't even touch an SRT4. Not sure where people are coming to that conclusion. My old 2001 Prelude got rocked by his SRT4 EVERY TIME.

ive driven my uncles mopar stage 3 srt-4, and that thing pulled. However as for launching it, it was too hard because of the massive torque steer and power especially on a fwd car. Trying too hard to control that torque steer kinda takes the fun outta the car.
its a nice car to play with on the freeway and straight lines, other then that; all that power is useless.
id rather turbo an s2k or 350z since the chasis is more stable and its ment to hug the road; along with the rwd.

For 16 grand you can have a better, faster, more rounded car. The srt-4 is nothing but an over-rated pile of donkey doo
edit;
Let me continue with this statement. The SRT Neon is still just a neon. The interior is cheap, components are cheap, the whole car is just cheap. Yeah its pretty good bang for buck for a lot of people. Its light, its quick and it can turn the odd corner. But some of us need a car that feels solid. Not mention all of the other hoohaw a quality car has. Seeing as the cars are still fairly new, they havnt all been plagued with problems, yet.Last edited by Dv8; 12-23-2007, 06:28 PM.

It depends on what you want. Honestly, a WRX is about all you'll find in the same age range and condition for anywhere near the price.
You could spend the money on a Supra or RX-7, perhaps... or a 300zxTT... but those are older cars. I'd feel more comfortable with a newer SRT-4 than an older "better" car.
And the nifty old stuff you Canadians are so lucky to be able to import isn't available to us just yet... I recently saw a non-turbo Skyline for sale for about 15 grand!

The thing with the Supra, RX and Z's is that they have inflated market prices due to demand. The age part doesnt bother me as I like older cars, but I cant justify 20k+ for a high milage American sports car. Same as I cant justify 15k for an SRT Neon.
The advantage I have over virtually everyone here, is I can buy cars from Japan due to Canadian importation laws. I have done so, and am continuing to do so (working on the third). They have low kilometers, and best of all low prices. This doesnt mean americans have no options. Take that 15 grand and either piece together an older model, or as said save a bit more and buy something newer thats worth your money. Im not saying dont buy an SRT Neon, go buy ten for all I care. I just dont recommend doing so.

For a "drop the cash, get the car, drop more cash, get dealer installed go fast goodies" the srt4 is the best bang for the buck. I don't expect them to be in great shape 10 years from now, and any that still run will be nearly worthless (unless they've been BABIED)... but for the price, they're good cars.
For a little more, the Mazdaspeed3 is a better car. However, there are no dealer upgrades... so what you get it all you get. A Z is considerably more expensive. A WRX is near in the price range, but it's a good deal slower... and again, you'll never get low 13s from dealer-installed parts.
The SRT-4 is the IDEAL American sport compact. It embodies everything that Americans are about. We want it. We want it cheap. We want it NOW. We don't want to have to think, or work for it. We just want it. Dodge gave it to us.
Now, would I buy one? No. I'd destroy it before I had it paid off. However, I wouldn't doubt for a second that I'd enjoy every second of it!
