2002 Nissan Skyline GT-R
Nissans are good, but we don't really have any of the really good ones over here. Maximas have lots of potential, but not much in the way of aftermarket. They are also FWD, which keeps me away.
If I got a USDM Nissan, it'd be a 300zx. Unfortunately, they're pretty beat up usually... or REALLY expensive because they were babied.
The older (93-era) Sentra SE-R is a great car as well. I'd love one of those.

cb got sold to a close friend the day before i had to renew insurance . So i got rid of it cuz i didnt have any money or a job. But now i work and I wanted to pick up another cb7 and finally put some parts on it. I've been looking at NYC's craigslist but I don't really see anything I truly want, so I've been trying to expand my horizons. But trust me, I still want a CB7, so if anyone in the eastcoast knows of any 5spds, let me know

Try finding an N/A z32 300zx. Generally not so beat.
Honestly nothing else Nissan makes (that is available here) appeals to me much (aside from the new g series).
The 240 is neat, as Deev said, there is a big aftermarket, but they are over priced and SERIOUSLY over-rated. A caged/stitch welded/braced s13 is still only as stiff as a stock Skyline.
They may be light, but they are just a noodly car. But dont get me wrong, they can still be a really fun car to have.
The s14's got beefed up significantly, I would advise finding one of those, but they seem to be a rarity now adays.

I never figured out why, but i've always disliked nissan. They just seem like the company that screams "hey, were the IN crowd!" and thats why they pride themselves. Honda and Toyota have much better reputation, IMO.
I mean, Nissan isn't even Nissan, its Renault, for christsake.
Dont get me wrong, the Skyline is a BAD ASS car. Just a little overrated.
My dad's never trusted a nissan(datsun in his time) ive never trusted them either. I would stay Honda man, if you could. Want to get into drifting, then maybe pick up a 240. They're the whores of the drifting band wagon.
Im not going to be a toyota whore and say go toyota,y0! because IMO its all personal experience and preference. My dad has always owned a toyota, ever since ive been around, my family has ALWAYS had a Toyota. And I will continue that "tradition"(my first was a VZVZ21 Camry, V6 5spd, FUN! )
Good luck with whatever you choose bro. Its what makes you happy in the end, not us.

^Same reason why I hate Mitsubishi. We just dont know. Hah.
I still cant believe you knock the Skyline Danny. I guess the only way youll get it is if you have the chance to own one, or ride in one with a driver who knows how to push the car. The Supra is great, but just too heavy to take corners like its counterparts do, it is what it is. Whatever, your opinion is your own. For whatever reason I REALLY want a Hachiroku...Last edited by Dv8; 06-18-2007, 12:51 AM.

I really mean the GT-R is hyped up. Its not hard to find another good car for it to compete with. I was in love with the skyline untill 2f2f. Then it was just hyped out, IMO. (initial D brought on my love for the R32)
The Supra, is a monsterous boat. You can find many cars to take it out in cornering. The motor(jz series more specifically) make that car so damn admirable. You can just beat and beat and beat and BEAT on those fucking motors without a care in the world. really. I want to believe the Supra was made as an all around good racing machine. From what ive seen, they've only been made to go fast in a straight line which is a huge dissapointment to me, but thats the truth. Whens the only time you see a supra kick ass any where? on a freeway or a dragstrip. Thats IT.
Im not knocking the machines that Nissan produce, bro. I just don't like company values and ethics. Nissan tries way to hard. thats just my humble opinion

The only cars in Japan that can consistantly keep pace with the GTR are Evolutions and FD's (In Japanese time attack circumstances), and the odd Supra and s15 may sneak in there.
That said, I dont see the GTR or the Skyline as everyone else seems to, I see it as sort of a timeless piece of engineering, that in many ways has never been surpassed. Fuck I view cars differently than 99 percent of people out there.
I try not to see all the hype, all the elitism bullshit. Honestly I hate how people think one thing is better than everything else, or what they have is SO great. Yes, I own a Skyline, yes its neat, but I still like old Accords more.
I can say the same about the motors that power them, and for the motors Toyota built, the 2jz, 1jz and 1uz are probably my favorites (moreso the latter).
But I agree, Nissan is trying to hard, so are many other auto makers, they are just over doing it. The engineering isnt in the same place as it was twenty years ago.
The new 'GTR' I think will be a flop in the eyes of many enthusiasts. The g series Skyline was, so its not unrealistic to think that... Hondas new 'NSX' will also be under much speculation. Toyotas new Supra on the other hand.. I think is on the right track.
What I still would love to see is a new Civic with AWD.

I LOVE older Nissans, and I too think the GT-R is mostly overrated.
I have seen event after event after event where stock NSX vs STOCK GT-R had both cars almost dead even, with either one slightly in the lead.
Really it came down to a style and driving preference.
IMO, STi's and EVO's have become the same way. If you own one, you are automatically the fastest person in the world, no matter what.
Bullshit.
If it were me, it would depend on what you want and what you can afford.
If I had the scratch, my #1 Nissan choice would be a mildly built 1st gen 510.
2nd would be an old Z, with the small rear windows.
3rd would be a 1st gen Sentra SE-R.
4th would be a last gen 200SX SE-R. Spiritually very close to the Sentra SE-R, but with 2 doors, light weight, and decent handling. I have always thought they were decent little cars.
5th would be a 1990-1996 300ZX TT. I personally wouldn't bother with an NA one because they cost almost as much to insure, and almost as much to maintain, while being a low 15 second car, and not the most fuel efficient things around.
If you are willing to deal with that, then go for it, but to me, there are easier ways to achieve that kind of performance with less impact on the wallet.
As far as Nissan in general, I have no real issues with them.
In my experience, they don't last quite as long as your average Honda or Toyota, especially if you get one from during the dark period, but I don't think they are driving shitboxes either. I have also not been typically impressed with their interior quality, or some of their build quality. You usually get better quality in those regards with Honda and Toyota, which is why they hold their resale value better.
In stock form, they are more fun to drive than Toyota (not hard IMO) and probably even slightly moreso than Honda, as Nissan appeals to more hardcore consumers.
However, they have some limitations once you start to mod them compared to Honda, the primaries being less sophisticated suspension design, and less suspension travel.
Since handling is such a big deal to me, I rank Honda higher in this department, although Nissans are easier to make fast in a straight line, without resorting to a stripped out hatch.
Nissans are good for boost.
Hondas are better all around.
In MY opinion.
All in all, you will just have to try it and see how it fits you.

240sx is just way overpriced. Not a very high quality car, but the aftermarket is pretty solid. You'd need to spend a bit of money to make one worthwhile.
