This car had the potential to be something huge, but IMO Nissan dropped the ball.

There's going to be two main trims, the 2.5 with CVT and the 3.5 with a 6 speed. Now the 3.5 will have 270 hp, which is a great amount of power for a car that size. It should give power/weights close to that of at least the older G35 coupe, and with the similar profile (look at the C-pillar), it should also sell well.

However, Nissan dropped the ball on two things, one, the drivetrain configuration and second, the pricing. This car is FWD, which means it will not be able to totally harness the 270 hp the way a similar RWD car could (think torque steer). The other problem is that if Nissan prices these similar to that of the Altima sedan, the 3.5 model should be pushing 30K. That's used G35 coupe territory. I can't see any true enthusiasts buying the Altima coupe instead of a G35, but that's just me.

They'll probably sell a bunch of 2.5 models...it's the perfect secretary's car...for the big haired blonde moving up from her Mustang V6 or Scion tC.

Honestly, IMO, Nissan should have used this model to cash in on the current drifting trend that's making the prices of old 240sx's skyrocket. If they had built this car, even detuned it to around 240 hp, made it RWD and priced it around 25K, they'd have a lot of sales.

I mean historically, at least in the early 90's, the Maxima was the FWD sedan, with the 300zx NA being the RWD coupe counterpart with the same motor...the Stanza was the FWD sedan, with the 240sx sharing the motor, but in RWD form. The Stanza was succeeded by the Altima, and now again we have the Maxima and 350z sharing the same family of engines, but with a different drivetrain configuration, but the Altima coupe being FWD?

I mean I know you can say that the Altima coupe would cannibalize the G and 350z sales...maybe it would, but I doubt it would hit the G sales as much as it would the 350z sales...especially offering a back seat...but yet Nissan has the Altima and Maxima at roughtly the same specs on paper at this point.

I dunno, I just think Nissan had the chance to build something special, and they overpriced themselves.

I think that the 350z and g35 is enough....adding another car into the class that looks almost similar and has a little less power I don't think is worth it
            Yeah, Preludes

Nissan is dropping like 150 new products over the next 3 years...

And I think it's a good look. They should resurrect the 240 though.

                      Good points.

                      Just an observation though.

Apparently, Nissan has gotten the FWD suspension geometry so good that there is no torque steer.

I haven't had the opportunity to drive one though, so I can't say for sure. I've never really noticed any issues in the new Accords either though, so maybe I just don't detect it, or maybe the roads where I am are smooth.

It looks like a less butch 350 mixed with a less butch G35 coupe IMO.
