Hey guys,
As some of you know I'm getting ready to leave for recruit training (USMC) which marks the end of a few chapters in my life and the start of a few new ones. Luckily my CRX was not forgotten in this transition and it'll be getting some much needed and overdue attention. Thus I decided to start a project log to document the progress I've already made and the progress to come if for no other reason to give you guys something to read while you're bored. If the mods feel like this isn't in the right section please feel free to move it.
Anyways my CRX came into my care on a cold, rainy night in February of 2005. I found it in the Honda-Tech classified ads and my brother decided to co-sign on a small loan for me so I could pick it up without delay.
Here's the condition I picked it up in:
After I picked it up:
While it was a Texas car (those pictures are of it in Texas) it had no rust, but it had obviously been in a decent little accident. The car came with a B16 swap already installed with a Y1 transmission and PR3 ECU. It is a 1991 HF and came with most of the rear interior missing.
A few weeks later I found a front bumper (which turned out to be in about the same shape) and a Zdyne swap ECU that made the car run...maybe a little better.
I had big plans for the car and I was off to a good start. I purchased quite a few parts to rebuild the front end and get it back on track. It had a horrible alignment problem.
After installing all of the parts (except axles) the camber issue I had was not fixed and my toe issue was only made worse.
The other wheel was straight in this picture:
I managed to temporarily alleviate the camber problem on one side with a camber kit, but the other side could not be dialed in.
I later found out that the knuckles were damaged in the *little* accident my car was in before I bought it. I also found rear frame damage that cost $160 to fix. Now the car is perfectly aligned in the front end after changing the knuckles.
Then some douchebag decided to steal my cluster and shroud:
$93 later it was fixed
Then my lugnuts decided to back off one day and my driver side front tire went flying off the car and into a lake. I managed to fish it out. Total damage included one lower ball joint and one front fender along with the trim on the fender.
Soon after this I lost my job and took it to the North Carolina all member CB7 Tuner meet.
That would make it the 2nd CB7 Tuner all member meet it made it to. Here's a pic of it at the TN meet a year earlier.
Seeing as how I went to the NC meet without having a job, I spent a lot of money I didn't have. I also figured a lot of things out on the 17 hour drive there, which eventually led me to my decision to enlist in the United States Marine Corps.
Of course we all know the real reason is to pay Francisco (HondaFan81) back his $40 for letting us stay in a room with him at the NC meet
The soonest I'll be posting updates is probably going to be somewhere around October 28th, 2006. That's when I should be home from recruit training with plenty of cash in tow to get started on this project again.
I've got the following repairs slated for when I return:
OEM Honda replacement driver's side fender
OEM Honda rear trailing arm bushings
K Sport lowering springs (already have tokico blue struts)
Konig Imagine wheels w/ Toyo Proxes 4 tires
I need the fender for obvious reasons, the trailing arm bushings are totally worn out, I already have the tokico blue struts on my car for the K sport springs, and I need the wheels and tires to replace my worn out tires on my totally ghetto 13" unmatching steelies. The tires don't even match since I ran one down to the point of belts showing on the NC Meet trip. Oops.
