Actually...I'd argue the flatback started it all. The pre-EF era. Maybe not in the "street racing scene"...but those cars were dominating SCCA in the 80's. It'd only be time before people did those on the streets.

                    Hey bro,

I like the Civic with the Mugen MR5's for the win. Its a nice touch of class and flavor to what could be just 'another rice Civic'. So keep up the good work.

Nice whip man. Wish it was a little lower, but it looks good.

Some dude in my neighborhood has an EF 4 door that fucking rips. Little drop, Integra meshes, clean paint job. Anyways I was almost certain he had a B16 in it, but it turned out he just had the stock D15 or whatever it was with bolt ons. I mean this thing chirped into 2nd no problem and sounded a lot bigger than a 1.5L. Plus D's respond really well to boost. Good luck on your project.

LOL! I knew this would happen! I tried to only pick one, as the founders were really the flatback, the EF and the EG.

It was still kind of a cult thing with the flatback and EF though. It was the EG that really started most of what we know as the Honda tuning scene today (swaps, swaps, swaps), although you can make a pretty good argument for either.

I remember when it became common knowledge that the B series was such an easy bolt in for the EF/EG chassis.

I heart the flatback! i had a 87 Si i used to rock the shit out of it, i had super mad bolt-on's too, but Mr. EF Si (Ryan / Laguna7) used to make fun of me for driving it. that was waaaaaayyyyyy back in the days, i think Ryan still has pic's - MAN! we were ricey back then.

P.S. I had full MSD on it and it got what seemed to be 100 MPG LOL!

LOL! I was never much of a fan of the flatback hatchies, but I sure do love those 1st gen CRX Si's. I remember like back in 99 when SCC and HASport swapped a B16A into one. The thing ran like 13.8 with exhaust.
