    comparisons of accords by generation?

I'm tossing around the idea of selling my CB7 and getting a newer model accord. I really like body style on the 6th gen ones ('98-'01?). However, this got me thinking is there any good comparison list of the motors that were available in each generation? I'd only really be interested in the four banger because I want a manual tranny but I have no clue what the output is on the four they put it in those years.

Can anyone help me or have any general advice on that generation accord?

    Thanks,

    Zach

First's things first 6th Gens are turds

      now...

The 6th gen Accord came in 6 trims.
      DX , LX, SE ('00 '02), EX, LX-V6, EX-V6

      3 different Engines were offered.
      DX = 2.3L / 135hp
      LX * SE * EX = 2.3L / 150hp
      V6 = 3.0L / 200hp

All trims could be had in stickshift except the V6 ones.

That's not a nice thing to say about CG's man. I have one. Don't be a hater. You hatin' but yet you know all the specs.

tochigi-fuji, check out http://www.6thgenaccord.com/forums/ & http://www.everything-honda.com/forums/index.php for some 6th gen love. Check out my page to see the mods I've done on my CG.

i think the best yrs or gens are the 5th gen and also the 6th gen. cuz its very similar to the japan models. where the new accord is the inspire and the tsx is really the jdm accord. if you notice the 7th gen accord is bigger than any other model accord. look at the 4th - 5th gen they are very similar in size and the 6th gen is a little bigger and the 7th gen is bigger than the 6th gen. the tsx is almost the same size as the 4th to 6th gen. this is only my opinion.

I think the Accords have been steadily increasing in size over the generations. It is small, but 5th gens are definately bigger than 4th, and 6ths and 7ths even bigger than that.

I'll admit, I've always loved the 5th gen but I couldn't find one with decent mileage so I bought my 6th gen in Jan. '04 with only 41,000 miles on it. All the 5th gens that I saw had well over 80,000 miles on it. I do a lot of driving, (currently 94,200 miles on my Accord now ) so I had to buy a car with low mileage.

The USDM 6th gen Accord was the first Accord Inspire that was a completely separate car. There regular Accord was completely different than ours.

The 6th gen 4 cylinders are turds.

The 6th V6's are generally more powerful than anything they competed against, but they could use some help by todays standards. They are excellent highway cruisers that really wakeup at 90MPH, but are geared to high for certain around town situation. The four speed auto also occasionally leaves you in a spot where you can't kick down a gear (like all 4 speed autos).

They do ride well, and they are very quiet and comfortable. They will also equal the gas mileage of a CB7.

There is also a lot of potential in the J series V6. They usually put down about 160-165 WHP and I have seen as much as 30WHP from just a header upgrade. Generally with a good set of headers, a catback exhaust system, and a high flow intake, you can fairly easily acheive 200WHP.

                          If you're going to get a 6th Gen get one in a 5-speed 4cyl.
This was Honda's shittiest transmission ever (99-03 Odyssey's are worse, excuse me)
I heard somewhere that Honda did not build their Auto trannies.
                          It was some other company.

Now for the 7th Gen, they are building their trannies in house.
There hasnt been tranny problems with the 7th gens as of yet.
Only the '03 model some problems with the Shift-interlock switch.

If you cant find a stickshift you like and you have to settle for an Auto,
make sure you get a 00-02.
(2000 had the most recalls )
Also they extended the warranty on the trannies 7 years / 100,000 miles.

Umm, that is all i have. Now go out there and get the car you like!

I don't think so. The 4 cylinders can be worked on with the right mods. There are many turbo 4 cyl. out there making some serious power. The V6 has MANY tranny problems. Nice V6 power but unreliable auto tranny. I'm happy with my 4 cyl.

                              I dont' recall mentioning reliability...

I agree that they do have a lot of tranny problems. Having said that, I have dealt with several 98-02 Accords (various trim levels and engine configurations) and haven't had any trouble with any of them.

My mom's 02 V6 hasn't so much as hiccuped in 60,000 miles, and it isn't treated gently, but it is maintained.

Perhaps people aren't maintaining them properly....

I have seen many boosted 4 cylinder 6th gens. I am still not real impressed. They make decent power, but they are heavy cars. They basically have all of the shortcomings of the USDM F22B, (small ports, doo doo VTEC, a so so IM that isn't readily interchangeable with any other Honda) and a couple hundred extra pounds.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Mom's V6, and I almost traded my CB7 in for an Eternal Blue Pearl EX 5 speed with gray leather. I just didn't have the expectation that it was going to be a rocket. My bolt on CB7 will outrun my moms V6, and her V6 buries the 4 cylinders. Her V6 also doesn't have a lot of trouble with most other cars that are about the same age/price range.

Now with a boosted J35 and a 6 speed tranny swap from a 2nd gen CL Type S, you would end up with a really powerful sleeper. Especially if you built the engine.

                              THAT would be fun!

Not trying to bag, that is just my opinion.
