    CVT Tranny?

Does anyone know of any car that uses a CVT tranny? Any import makers? Not wanting to invest in one, just kinda interested in how they work and wanted to testdrive a car with one, since its said to be a big difference over a auto hydro tranny.

I believe someone posted that the Infiniti FX45 (SUV)/Nissan Murano has that kind of tranny. Don't know for sure or if any other production car has it.

The Honda Civic was offered with a CVT from 98-00 I think, I'm not 100% sure on the years, but i know it was the 96-00 body style. I believe it was the HX model.

The Audi A4 can be had with a CVT.

The Subaru Justy was also available with a CVT.

I know there is more, but I can't think of them off the top of my head.

I knew this technology is fairly new, and expected it to be on a german car, but honda civic? But thats cool if it is, then maybe I'll have a chance to drive it. I would thought that the honda company would intro the CVT tranny in an Acura car first, before a lower end honda. Has anyone on here ever drove one?

Me either, but you know what im talking about right? The tranny that doesnt have any gears inside, but two belts instead, and theres no shifting for start to topend.

This is an article about the new Civic with the CVT, but if you look they mention it was available in 1996.

Sorry, I don't mean to come across in any way, I just remember reading about this in Car and Driver back in the day.

Correct, EK Civics did come with a CVT from 1996 to 2000 in the HX trim level. They can only be found in coupe version though and are outfitted more similarly to a DX than an EX. Also, they have a VTEC-E engine like the EG Civic VX.

Other than the novelty, I've heard it is supposed to give better gas mileage and better performance because of there is no delay due to shifting, but I don't know if there's any truth...if i remember right, i think the A4 CVT was faster than the auto A4, but i could be wrong.

From the little Ive heard about the tranny, all I know is that its a relatively new concept, maybe only a few years...and heard that its quicker than an auto because it uses belts instead of seperate gears, thus no shifting. But basically all that I know about it is pretty much what AccordWarrior stated.
