And I am sure many Volvo enthusiasts think the old Accords are the best looking thing in the world.

I was surprised to see a 4 cyl, I thought it was a 6 at least

I always thought it was an inline 5 turbo. Those are the ones I always see.

Volvo has prodominantly used 5 cylender engines through the years.

                            Yes, its a 4.

Volvo had used 4 cylinder engines up through the 70s until the 1979/80 262, which had a VW 6 cylinder. The 2 series after that only had a 4 all the way until its demise after 1993. The 7 series and 9 series both had the 2 series' 2.3l FI inline 4, or an option for a V6. The I5s didn't come along until the 8 series in 1994 or so. Honda/Acura had their I5 in the Vigor before Volvo had theirs in the 8.

FYI, the flagship Volvo sedans have had I6's for many years. Only recently did the S80 gain a V8 option.
